Broadline Cost

Hi everyone,

I got a rescue cat( hoarder situation) couple of weeks ago.
Owner said the medium sized cat is due her flea treatment,
and they can get it from their vet.

Not to stress the cat out more and to let her settle,
I agreed.

It is prescription only, and she's had it before.

I was quoted nearly £80 by the previous owner,
for 6 pipettes of Broadline.

Is that right?

I see it is much cheaper online via prescription.

Anyone got 6 pipettes from a vet for a similar price?
Or is the previous owner trying to just make some easy money?

Thank you very much :)

You would need prescription bought from the vet before you could buy online at the cheaper price. I wouldn't be surprised if 6 pipettes did cost £80 tbh.
Could you contact the vet and ask their prices?

Thank you.

I think prescription is anywhere between £8-12,
and Broadline £20-35 online.

I forgot to mention that when I was offered this by the previous owner,
they told me it's about £35-39.

I then got message that they have the medicine,
and it is few pennies short of £80.

I thought it might be a typo, but allegedly it isn't and prices during lockdown went up.

I already paid a lot to get this lovely cat out of those living conditions,
hence the feeling I am being taken advantage of.

Thanks :)

Anyone with recent experience of purchasing Broadline from vets?

Thanks :)

If its going to be your cat now aren't you as well speaking to the vet directly and changing the details they hold for the cat to your details

User135792468 · 09/06/2021 16:05

No, I ordered some last week. £35 on an online pharmacy and £12 for a prescription from the vet.

Broadline uses Fipronil for fleas which is pretty useless. Most cats don't need worming as often as they need flea treatments so I would switch to separate products. Advantage is the only non-prescription flea treatment which works, and it's much cheaper. If the cat will take tablets without too much fuss, Drontal are very cheap and don't need a prescription, or you can use their spot on version, Dronspot, again, no need for a prescription.

Yes, I am @dementedpixie.

But I was told that she is due/ entitled to Broadline now.
She is very sensitive and scared young lady at the moment..
went through some traumatic times in her life whilst living there.

Didn't want to stress her with the vet straightaway, wanted to let her settle a bit.

So that's why I was offered this arrangement by the previous owner.

Hindshight, should have just started afresh.

Thanks for the info, @User135792468 :)

Would you be using the same vet? If so, the vet may not need to see the cat before giving the broadline

gummybear36 · 09/06/2021 17:03

Many thanks @ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn.

Will take note of that :)

There are no fleas present at the moment, just as a preventative measure.

Thanks again for the detailed info! :)

Just tell them you don't want it, register her with a vet of your choice and tell them you'll source your own. They can't make you take it.
Do be aware though that no vet can prescribe anything for your cat until they have been physically examined by the prescribing vet so that would be a consultation fee on top of a prescription fee.

gummybear36 · 09/06/2021 17:27

No, @dementedpixie,

it will be a new vet closer to me.

Of course, I don't mind paying any fees as she is my responsibility now,

Was just curious if I am being taken for a ride.

I did a lot (food, accessories wise) in the past few months,
prior to deciding to help at least this young cat. It is a long story...

Thanks for your input.

Thanks @Anonaymoose,

I am absolutely fine with the vet cost of having a cat,
it wasn't really about the money as such.

Just was taken aback by the sudden increase in the price,
and wanted to check from experienced MumsCat owners..

When the previous owner offered this Broadline,
I thought it was in the best interest of the young lady to not stress her
so soon into the change of the environment.

Thanks for your input and thoughts :)
