Is it reasonable to stop checkups now?

Snorg has been monitored by a cardiologist 6 monthly over three years, as her sister had HCM. Snorg has thickening to her septum but not other disease and It hasn't changed at all. Is it reasonable to stop going now? Obviously if she was at all unwell I would get her seen immediately. She may not be insured at the next renewal as the premiums are eye watering. Its £ 700 a visit

clinically I've no idea, but a factor would for me would be age -- how old is Snorg? An elderly cat could pop clogs for any reason any time, costs to spend on prevention is a different calculus compared to if a young cat.

What would they do if Snorg got had a heart issue?

She's 11, but possibly older. Her sister was treated with medication. But her heart was so bad, even I could see the damage on the scans. She was never unwell with it and had 9 months of normal life post diagnosis, until her kidneys packed up.

She had 8 tablets a day. (She was brilliant at taking them) I don't think Magic would be as cooperative!

2 scenarios, what is the life expectancy difference

A) You stop screening scans, she starts developing a problem tomorrow, you don't realise until something triggers a scan & diagnosis: how long would she live?

B) a problem is detected at her next scheduled scan, she starts treatment right away, how long would she live for having had that very early detection?

11 for a Persian isn’t a bad age, the oldest we got one of our chinchillas to was 15 or 16 when her kidneys packed up.

The cardiologist did say that it could be age related thickening rather than disease. I think after three years of no change, it would have got worse if it was going to by now. Her insurance premium is likely to go up to around £250 a month. So I just can't afford these visits.

That is prohibitively expensive. You could save her current premium.

It goes without saying, that if I was at all concerned about her. She'd be straight back there and I'd find the money.

The cardiologist said she was in a bad mood yesterday. I was amazed. She doesn't do bad moods.

Yes, of course. £250 is a lot of money each month though & no one would blame you for cancelling.

I'll leave Cheddar's as it is. As she doesn't cost much. I'll set up
A savings account for Magic. Grin
