Cattery for building works

I have a house (flat) cat and need to have my kitchen replaced soon. It will involve fixing the floor and ceiling, plastering as well as the actual fitting.

When I had my bathroom done, because of the way my flat is laid out, she had to spend all day in one room and got very distressed, scratching and miaowing all day. This time, it would be the same, except I would also be likely working from home as well.

I was considering putting her in a cattery for the duration. Would this be better for her (and me?) I am pregnant this time and the idea of working from home with building works going on and a noisy, stressed cat is making me despair.

But I don’t want to put her in a cattery just for my own benefit. 😞

Put her in a cattery, it will be far easier for you both. Otherwise, she will be stressed with the intrusion into her territory, and the strangers and noise will increase her anxiety, and you will be stressed thinking about her and checking on her. Far better to let her have a little holiday in a nice cattery where she will soon get used to her calm surroundings, and she will be all the happier to come home to you when your kitchen is finished.

Awww @Dubbadubbadumdum that’s reassured me so much I feel quite tearful. Thank you. That was my instinct but didn’t know if I was just being selfish.

She was the most stressful part of the last building to be honest.

We put our 2 boys in the cattery for 2 weeks whilst we had our kitchen done (including full on plastering ceiling and walls) we have open plan downstairs and we don't let them upstairs. They were happy as Larry on their holiday. We managed to get them back a day early and they were most disgruntled that we dragged them away from their kitty hotel

I definitely would. We put cat in the cattery for 4 days when moving house, so tgat we was away for all of the hustle and bustle. He's settled marvelously and I think some of it was that it was stress free for him. He does get very spoilt when he goes 'on holiday' as dd puts it

I'm getting my kitchen done soon. And my two are definitely going to the cattery!

Mine love their cattery. Collection usually involves dismantling of their castle bed, to get them out. Pleased to see me, they are not!

Definitely cattery. She'll be safe, well cared for and you don't need to worry about her being stressed, or getting in the way.

We have to prize Sparklingcat from the cattery owner's arms when we pick her up. Hmm

Aw guys I am so reassured and relieved. Thank you all. Knackeredcat is pretty spoilt at the best of times and her favourite activity is chilling out so it sounds like she’ll have a great time.

Thank you all again.

Yes do it. Cattery would be the safest and least stressful option.

Magic does her happy quivery tail thing when she sees the cattery staff. Do I get that? No chance!

It's rubbish isn't it? I am sure she loves the cattery lady more than me, it's very unfair. Sad
