Loss of appetite

My three year old seems to be losing interest in her wet and dry food. Even dreamies don't have the same appeal. She is 100% indoor, so not fed elsewhere.

Apart from this she is playing as usual, eyes bright, and if anything is more cuddly than normal.

She has started taking food out of bowls with her paw, leaving food, will eat if fed by hand but won't play with the Dreamie penguin.

Feels as if she has lost a little weight, but isn't underweight yet.

Is this worthy of a vet visit? We've only had her six months, and not sure what's going on.

Toileting is fine, and we tried different bowls and putting dried food on her mat to eat.

Where is her food compared to litter tray? Should be quite separate, water shoould also be separate.

That aside i think it warrants investigation

Nothing has changed location, litter tray is in a different room, and water fountain about 4m from the food and round a corner, so not visible.

I'm going to weigh her this morning to monitor her weight. She had got a little overweight prior to this as she normally eats everything she can

I’d take her to the vets, it’s not normal for an animal to go off food.

JennysWell · 29/05/2021 10:55

Just to clarify, she is still eating, just not as much. For example instead of finishing a pouch in one go, she will eat 3/4 then return to it later. Dry food is less, and she would normally be shouting for every meal and now doesn't. I'll take her to get checked.

I've booked her into the vet, and she is 5.8kg today.

She has also been changing colour over the last month or so. I did phone the vet and the breeder and the vet had no idea, and the breeder thought it was sunlight related. She spends a lot of time in the conservatory (her choice), and the colour change is on main grooming areas. You can see in the photo. She was totally blue when we got her and is now brown with ginger tips on a lot of her body

That would concern me too. Let’s hope it’s a simple issue like teeth.

She is stunning, is she a maine coon? Ive seen similar colour changes with black cat fur turning coppery and it was down to a deficiency. They used to give a supplement called SA37 but im not sure if you can still get it.

5.8 is a good weight, however remember a kg in weight us about 20% of her bodyweight to put it into perspective.

A vet check should put your mind at rest.

JennysWell · 01/06/2021 15:13

Yes, she's a Maine Coon. The vet says she seems to be in excellent health, couldn't find any issues, and she ate all her food when she got home. £40 lighter, but the vet clipped her nails so at least that's something Grin
