Where do you keep your litter tray in your house?

As the title really, where do you keep your litter tray in your house?

I have always kept it in a spare bedroom, out of sight, smell etc.

My OH moved in with his cat over a year ago and always kept his litter tray in the bathroom, as he says that’s where the toilet is so the cats toilet should be in there too.

But I use the bathroom and don’t want to see or smell the tray whenever I’m in there. Plus guests too.

He thinks I’m odd keeping it in an unused bedroom. But I think he’s odd wanting to keep it in a room we shower and clean ourselves in!

Wondered what others views are? Are they both reasonable spots for it?

Thank you Smile

@4fingerKitKat

We used to keep ours next to the downstairs loo - I used to scoop the poo into the toilet until I learned you aren’t supposed to do that!

Then it was in the spare bedroom on the grounds it was least used room in the house (stuck it on landing when we had guests).

Now we don’t have a spare room or a downstairs loo, just got a new cat and haven’t decided on a permanent home for it yet.

I still put poo down the loo. Why can't you?

I can’t see a problem with having it in the kitchen though any more than having it in any other room in the house, it’s no more or less unhygienic than anywhere else!

In a space in the Kitchen diner on the way through to the living room. No space in the bathrooms and I wouldn't like keeping the bathroom door open.

@tentosix

Don't have a cat or a litter tray, but it sounds gross and disgusting to have it in the kitchen where you prepare food. It's like having a toilet next to the cooker.
My litter tray is nowhere near where food prep is done. It's not exactly on the worktop next to the chopping board!

I don't have the litter tray in the kitchen but my cats walk all over the benches.
It doesn't bother me and I don't cook for anyone else.

I live alone with one dcat. Her litter tray is in a corner of the dining room where I will see it often enough to notice when it needs scooping or cleaning out and doesn't get kicked by me when I'm walking around.. It only smells when there is faeces in it, so I usually smell it before I see it. The litter I use is wood pellets and does not smell when it only has urine in it.

I have an indoor balcony so the litter tray is on there and it's a laminate type flooring so easy to keep clean for overspill
