How vocal is your cat?

I don't mean general conversation Grin but more 'announcements'. Kloppy has always been an exuberant cat and likes to keep me informed of his every move. He bursts into the house with a flourish and a dramatic squeaky 'I'm BACK!!!' He scoffs his food with appreciative nom nom noises. He charges up and down the stairs making a delighted 'mmmmeeeeeeppppp' noise before eventually flopping on the floor and letting out an exhausted grunt like a dying seal He headbutts me when I'm sleeping and if I don't respond quickly enough he purrs full blast down my ear until I wake up and cuddle him Hmm

Sybil is very noisy. Particularly when hungry, she demands food with a loud, long, and bad-tempered sounding miaow squawk. She also has a very loud purr which is turned on at full volume if you so much as look at her.
Basil and Karl are both conversational, you ask a question they answer back.
Lenny's most endearing habit is to walk into the living room, sit down while staring at one of us (usually DS2), and then give a little miaow saying 'come down here and pay attention to me'. It works Grin.
They are all bloody noisy when they want to go out though.

Aww loving all these noisy cats 😻

None of my current cats are hunter-gatherers but my old boy Rafa was, I was filled with dread when I heard that very specific announcement of 'I've brought you a PRESENT!' 🙄

Never had a noisy cat, except when food is wanted. Had one that could purr for England when younger though.

Lost my old boy a fortnight ago, miss his constant 'feed me' yowl Sad My girl is a talker, narrates her every move and persists til I answer, or preferably pick her up and carry her round like a baby Blush She gets very shouty if I close a door (can't remember the last time I peed with the bathroom door closed) and she can't get to me, she will wail with increasing volume and desperation until said door is open and then follow me round telling me off for daring to close it Grin

My boy also shouts loudly to let us know he has returned and keeps going until he gets an answer. It's when he's quiet that I worry as I know his mouth is full Envy

Girlcat is very vocal - she squeaks at everyone who comes into the house, screams for her dinner and loves rolling on her back and squeaking for belly rubs. She purrs a lot too.

KittenCat has the loudest purr I have ever, ever heard - he's like an engine! He also screams for dinner, screams if he wants the biscuits in his bowl re-arranging, screams to have doors opened for him and just screams in general. I think he's part Oriental judging by his head shape but he's VERY loud.

FatCat only really moans for his dinner, otherwise he's very quiet - even his purr is quiet. DH has never even heard him purr and I have to press my ear right into him lol. He's never been very vocal but he is grumpy and he will hiss/swipe if you displease him in any way Grin

One of mine is quiet the other I have the morning chorus when he has had his food and wants to know where I am. It's a series of noises that sound like someone gargling mouthwash then a yowl.

He trills almost constantly anytime he moves from one place to another, tail up and living his best life.

Silly sod 😂

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 25/05/2021 20:45

oooh, i had forgotten the " i have something foorrrr YOUUUUUUUUUU!!" shout!!

Current cats are not good hunters at all, but my first two were ruthless! Really insistent and loud!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/05/2021 11:12

Ours has always been pretty chatty, but since lockdown and us both being at home all the time she has been MUCH more vocal. (Or was she always talking to herself, and we just missed it because of being at work?) I’m a lecturer and I have had numerous classes entertained by her sitting level with the microphone and mip-mipping at the birds in the garden as I work at the kitchen table.

Boy cat always tells me about his day when I get home. He sounds a bit like Wheezy the penguin from Toy Story.

Girl cat is half Bengal and likes to remind us, especially at 5am when she asks for breakfast. She can actually say "hello" but no-one believes us.

Trinacham · 26/05/2021 11:33

I have 2 Ragdolls. I think their breed is considered very vocal. One is definitely more vocal than the other. He is the one who will remind us that it's their breakfast or dinner time. We also get announcements from him before he uses the litter tray. The other one tends to dob himself in it when he announces that he's about to do something naughty (like jump on the kitchen sides to see if there's any food he can find)

dancinfeet · 26/05/2021 11:42

The cat who has claimed me, jumps up onto the patio table and gives me the Paddington stare until I go outside with a few dreamies for him. If I ignore the Paddington stare , he jumps up and the back door with a miaowwwwwwl until the dreamies are delivered. If I am in the wrong part of the garden (I.e. out at the front putting the bin out, not in the back garden) he stalks after me and sits as close as possible giving the Paddington stare. If I ignore him and go into the house he shits in my flower tubs by way of protest. I now am.fully trained as to when Dreamies must be given. (Disclaimer, I checked with my neighbour, the cat's real owner if it is ok to give him Dreamies, and she said that was fine, I think she already knows he is boss of the street).

My two lovely kitties are now departed, but one was half Siamese and extremely chatty. You could have quite extended conversations with him. My other kitty was a normal mongrel shorthair and not quite as talkative, but every coming and going was announced with a brisk chirp. Miss them both, they were lovely affectionate cats. They used to meet me on the street corner in the evening and escort me home after work.

Imperialheaven · 26/05/2021 11:59

Haven’t got a cat but I go to someone’s house who does and it just yowls all the time, find it creepy and annoying. I couldn’t put up with it if it was mine !
