NDN female cat - pregnant again!

My NDN has a female cat. Hasn't had it neutered but was let outdoors. Cat one day gives birth, no one had any idea said female cat was pregnant. At the time I did tell NDN they should get the cat spayed. They did say they would book appt.

3 months (if that) later cat is now pregnant again.

Aibu to be pretty angry at the carelessness of my NDN's? Last time all the kittens went to their family and friends so good homes and I'm sure this time they will too but it's the strain on the poor cat. She was let outdoors again, even though she hadn't been neutered. I didn't see her out at all or else I would have mentioned it to NDN but apparently a few nights she was scratching at the door to get out (obviously cause she was in heat) and they let her out.

I was discussing NDN at work and colleague, who is also a cat owner, said it's not irresponsible at all and that is it a cat's natural purpose to breed.

Just wanted to see opinions, am I being OTT? Or is it careless

Hugely irresponsible. I’d judge the hell out of a colleague who thought otherwise.

This...

Poor kitty 😢

Completely out of order. Colleague sounds batshit too.

It’s every animals purpose to breed but that doesn’t mean you have to and the mortality rate for feral kittens isn’t great.

I’d be tempted to kidnap the cat, spay, hide at a friends house till the fur grows back then return.

Zandathepanda · 21/05/2021 13:38

Kittens are selling for high prices. They probably realised that once they looked at the adverts and realised they ‘lost’ a bit of money giving them to friends and family. Easy way to make a buck. Poor cat.

Last time I spoke to NDN, they said it was cruel to spay/neuter. I said it was cruel to not! I've avoided NDN since I found out because I was so angry but will definitely be forcing the issue of having her spayed as soon she gives birth.

She's only 1.5 years old. Her last birth went very smoothly thankfully, hopefully this one is too.

How do you plan to force an issue that has nothing to do with you?

MoesBar · 21/05/2021 17:22

I’d be luring her inside and taking her myself. She’s just a kitten herself and is being badly neglected by her owner, how many pregnancies will she have before the owner does something?!

Natural purpose to breed my arse.

This.

Yes it's irresponsible but there is nothing you can do about it.

eauderose · 22/05/2021 01:05

I mean I know I can't force NDN to have her cat spayed. But I spoke to her earlier and convinced her to atleast get the cat seen by a vet. She didnt think there was any need but I talked her round. Cat didn't have a registered, so have managed to book an appt for her in with my own vet.

Baby steps I guess!

Can you offer to pay for it?

eauderose · 22/05/2021 13:49

I have offered to pay for it in the past but they insist money is not an issue, they just don't think it's needed.

That's neglect. Presume they've worked out how much cash they'll get for a litter of kittens.
If they lived next door to me their cat would disappear into a rescue asap as a pregnant stray.

KurtWilde · 22/05/2021 15:22

It has absolutely nothing to do with you.

Asdf12345 · 22/05/2021 16:13

Before getting it spayed or any vet treatment which may affect its breeding ask what you will do if they sue for loss of breeding income.

Not your cat, not your business. If it was clearly unwell or suffering it would be different but this is no question of animal welfare, simply you wishing to inflict your views on others at potentially their significant expense.
