New kitten struggles - help !

Bought this lovely little kitten through gumtree last week . She is a maincoon .

Owner insists she is 9 weeks old but she is very very tiny - only slightly bigger than my hand. I have another cat ( Russian blue ) who was thrice this size at 9 weeks . Seems very very young - struggle to climb up and jump off furniture etc . Her cry is still a very low squeak . Just cannot believe she's 9'weeks .

Issues we are having :

  • accidents everywhere . I put her in the litter tray very very frequently and she'll usually jump right out . She will use it after lots and lots of encouragement but am still finding poo and wee behind furniture .
  • she doesn't seem to know to dig / bury when she uses the tray she just leaves it on top of the litter . I take her paws and encourage her to dig and bury but she isn't interested at all .
  • does seem to groom herself very well . Poo on paws etc

will this settle and is there anything I can do ?

These threads are depressing. Yet another example of a cat being taken from its mum far too young, but hey all is fine now. Meanwhile, shitty breeder is churning out more kittens with more people willing to pay for them.

Yes, kittens are classed as weaned at around 8 weeks old. But is ideal for them to stay with mum/siblings until around 12 weeks as their “socialisation/behaviour” skills are much better at that age.

I don’t understand why anyone taking on a new youngster (kitten/puppy/whatever) wouldn’t have a vets sorted out straight away - get them registered, checked over etc.

She’s very cute (don’t think it’s a MC though) and luckily things seem to be ok. Hope she has a vets appointment booked in. Am amazed that earliest appointment was end June and that no vets in a however wide various weren’t interested.

Hope she continues to grow and thrive, but wish people would think more before buying from gumtree etc. Either rescue (so many cats needing homes), or buy from reputable breeders (who provide 4 weeks insurance, proof of lineage, proof of first vaccination etc).

Aww she is beautiful whether she's a maine coon or not! We have a Maine Coon but she came with full GCCF papers and we met both parents. Best hunter we've ever had so if there is any Maine Coon in your girl at all you'll never have a problem with flies or moths again! Grin

We also had a similar experience with a couple of our other cats who were meant to be 9 weeks old but when I went to collect them they were more like 6 weeks and absolutely tiny - couldn't just leave them there though. They got plenty of love and have grown up into fine sturdy cats!
