Settling our our new kitten

We're getting a kitten ! We've had cats before, but always rufty tufty strays who've just chosen to stay with us. We haven't had cats since we moved to Australia, and having recently bought a house we're now in a position to get a cat.

We're getting a Maine Coon kitten tomorrow, so I'm trying to work out how to help her settle in best. She'll be an indoor cat, and an only cat for now. Our house is quite open plan so we're putting her in the kitchen / diner area to start with (plan attached!). Her cat tree, bed and food are in the "Family" area on the plan, her litter tray will move from the "Meals" area to the laundry area (far left) once she's settled and has the run of the house.

Do we need to do anything to help her settle? Should we sleep in with her for a few nights on the sofa?

All help gratefully received! (And I've attached a photo of our new girl Eeeeek! Exciting!!)

I decided on the one room approach after taking advice. I got twin boy kittens. I plugged in a pheromone diffuser and just opened their carrier door and sat quietly. One came out to explore, walked round the room, then got back in the carrier as if to say yep it’s ok , then they both feel asleep. I left them alone to get their bearings and went back into the kitchen every hour or so and just sat in the floor. Within a couple of hours they came over to me to investigate me and started to climb over me. We kept them in the one room for a couple of days but took the carrier away after 24 hours and then we left the kitchen door open and they gradually explored the rest of the house . Obviously everything was in the kitchen as you said food, water, soft cozy beds, blankets scratching post and some toys.

Thanks!
She's here, and remarkably chilled, sitting in our laps and actually sitting in her bed rather than in a box... I might delegate the night settling to DH. They're currently watching old FA Cup highlights on TV, in between squeezing under the sofa and shouting at closed doors (the kitten, not DH...)

Aww bless her!!! That photo is gorgeous but how little is she? And what name are you giving her?? And is someone sleeping on the sofa tonight?

I got a boy of 9 I think he was, he spent his first night sitting like a statue on my hip while I slept. We too will buy a house shortly and then we can get another cat. But I'll follow your story for the early days experience.
