How much food? Ragdoll kittens

Hello, how much food should 2 Ragdoll kittens aged 10weeks eat?

They were on primula one kitten dry food, which the lady who bred them just left out for them, and they were starting to eat felix kitten pouches a wee bit. But the back of the dry food says20-70g for their age and felix says 2-4 pouches?

Also should I let them "graze" or just put it out at certain times?

So confused and I've never had kittens as a grown up.

What did your vet recommend?

I have a ragdoll and when she was a kitten it was 45g of royal canin and then a couple of times a week, roast chicken.

She then went to 45g of royal canin and a tin of applaws every day.

To be honest I quickly got to the stage of giving dry food permanently, so it stays out all the time. And giving wet food at similar meal times to us, so first thing and dinner time. She now has Blink wet food.

You’ll find that at six months they will ramp up their eating, and again at 12-18 months and then it plateaus a bit.

But being honest, I’ve had two ragdolls before her and they’ve always self regulated their eating after 6 months.

You’ll know when a kitten is hungry they will literally climb you like a tree the moment you go near the food cupboard.

My ragdoll gets a dodgy stomach with anything other than dry food. She’s on iams now as touch wood, she’s been fine with it for a few years.

What kind of ragdoll you got? You have neglected to post pix.Angry

Sorry forgot to say, she just grazes now, I top her up when it looks like she’s running low.

No one is able to actually answer honestly without a picture OP Grin

Smile They are at the vets next week. We can stand at the door way and hand the kittens over - not going to be a long consultation at 6degrees warm!

I remember my cat when I was a teenager bugging the hell out of me if she was hungry. She got fed twice a day and was outside. Currently we leave dry food out and are putting down meat twice a day.

2 family members of mine have several rag dolls between them and they always put the food down at set times and then leave. The wet food normally goes quite fast but is left down if not, and the dry food is always available. Different food has different nutritional value so will require different amounts - just follow the guide on the individual packets

Gorgeous!

I fed mine on demand, his bowl empty miaow had to be heard to be believed, as their growing so quickly. He self regulated after a year.

Beautiful kitten, just stunning.

MrsAmaretto · 14/05/2021 18:09

Thanks everyone for your advice!

We've only had them for a week so I'm sure they'll soon let us know their preference!

We fed our 2 kittens wet and dry food. So I looked on the packages and gave half the recommended amount of wet food and half the recommended amount of dry food. (yes I weighed it out!!) - we did give them extra if they ate it all really quickly and were hungry. (I thing we gave it over about 4 meals.....plus extra if required. We always leave a little bit down at night so they can eat if hungry then too.) The amount changes over time so check every so often.
