Hi there, we are new to kittens & interested in how you manage your cat's litter trays & what products you use/hate. TYIA!

Hi there!

My kitten Luna is 4 months old, I've had her for about 6 weeks.

She has a covered litter tray which works really well as she likes to flick it everywhere!

At the moment I'm at home with her most of the time, so I can scoop the poop as soon as she's done it.

Each morning I scoop out any poo or wee and add a fresh layer of litter. Once a week I completely empty the litter tray and wash it out.

I've been using wood pellets, so far I've tried Pets At Home own brand, Nature's Own and I'm currently using Animal Dreams. I haven't found one to be better than the other so I'll probably go back to the cheapest!

You’ll need a non-clumping litter, preferably kitten litter as big litters uncomfortable to walk on and they will poo on the floor if the tray isn’t to their liking.

I never bothered with liners or scented powders. We used clumping when he was old enough and scooped as soon as we noticed it was dirty.

Looking back he needed two trays in the kitchen overnight, if his tray was already used he pissed on the wall behind the hob.

We have an 8-10 month old, we've had her for 2 1/2 weeks, first few days she used a basic tray with world's best multicat in. I've now switched her to a covered tray as she is a flicker and im also in process of switching over to natusan litter.

Both switches seem to be successful so far

Great advice, thx...we have 2 kittens who, after initial wariness, now get on v well. Covered tray is better as less messy (he is a flicker!!). Think the little girl needs her own though tray so will get a second I think. (Looking a you Fluffy....didn't think of that!!). I scoop & flush, bur we have a septic tank & I'm worrying about that. Is it OK dya think?

Your not meant to flush into a sewer so I don’t know how it would affect the bacteria in your septic tank. They might not like you very much when they clean it out. Google will know though.

You can use degradable nappy sacks or dog poo bags.

Definitely not meant to flush. Especially litter it blocks up the drains - wouldn't imagine it would your septic tank any good either
