My garden is the local loo 😢

I want to humanly and cheaply repel the darlings!

I don’t dislike cats but I seriously am upset with all the pop in finding. Obviously these cats belong to neighbors and I don’t want to upset anyone but I really don’t want them fouling at the bottum of my garden. I’ve not currently planted anything so it must seem like the perfect spot to them.

I’ve also got a toddler and don’t want her digging up the mess.

I’m thinking home remedies, until I can afford something sonic.

Please advise mumsnetters

Lots of pointy sticks in the flower beds works for me. Plus running towards any particular offenders if you see them in the act.

Spray them with water. A super soaker or something would be a good option, or those motion-sensor water sprayers. Honestly. Cats won't toilet somewhere they think they're going to get a good soaking. It won't hurt them in any way either.

Thanks I shall invest it’s a pain I don’t have an outdoor tap! X

Yes super soaker.
You can get those spiky grip metal things for carpet fitting on top of walls, it's amazing how they stop coming in. They are legal, sell them in wilco.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/04/2021 20:12

You’ll cut their paws if you use carpet gripper rod & hurt them. Their not pooing there to annoy op they do it to mark territory.

You can buy electric cat repellents. It emits a sound unpleasant to them that we can’t hear.

It’s probably the cat equivalent of Jazz.

Good God, please don't do this. It's cruel beyond belief. There's no need to hurt the cats and potentially cause them permanent damage!

Sparklingbrook · 23/04/2021 20:27

Those spiky things are awful. The man next door to my friend put them up to deter cats and she used to watch the birds attempting and failing to land on them. Sad

I agree with the supersoaker, my Mother swears by orange peel but it just looks awful. Like you've just emptied the bin in the garden.

crashbandicoot4 · 23/04/2021 20:41

You need some lion poo.
Local zoo's sell big cat pop for this purpose or you can buy something called lionsroar.

MeridasMum · 23/04/2021 20:52

I used to buy a pack of green gel pellets from B&Q to discourage neighbours' dogs from pooing on my front garden (new estate, no fences). You're supposed to sprinkle them on the grass. Would that work for cats?

JasperLily · 24/04/2021 23:04

When the local cats started using our shingle drive as a giant litter tray I used orange peel. I asked all my friendly colleagues for their peel at lunch time and sprinkled it all over the drive. Cats don’t generally like citrus smells.

It worked for me. Also worked when I need to train my boy from pooping in the bath.

RedSquirrelRoar · 25/04/2021 00:18

When you do get around to planting, try to use dense ground cover plants so there’s no bare soil. And perhaps some spiky bushes!

Tavannach · 25/04/2021 03:22

Used coffee grounds sprinkled around. They don’t like the smell.

Ineedaneasteregg · 25/04/2021 04:01

We used orange peel successfully.
