Overly clingy cat - help!

Hi

I had two cats from 6 months old as a family member could no longer care for them. No problems with either of them until one of them started becoming unwell and we lost her about 12 months ago to cancer.

The cats were sisters but never overly close, as in weren't together very often or didn't show each other much attention. Around the same time we lost this cat though, the remaining cat has become so clingy it's actually really getting too much. As soon as I sit on the sofa she tries to lie on my lap (I am up and down all the time so not practical), I get up, she gets up and follows me, I go upstairs, she comes upstairs, I have a bath and dare to shut the bathroom door, she scratches at it for me to open it.

My bf isn't keen on coming here as he isn't a huge cat lover anyway but can't stand the clinginess of her (which I can't deny as it annoys me too but I figure I have no choice as she's my cat).

We have had her over 10 years and the kids love her but it's me she won't leave alone!

Has anyone got any experience or suggestions please?

I have a recently clingy cat.

He started when I got pregnant (he knew before me, I just know it). He won't leave me alone when I am at home. Rarely used to sit on me, but recently he's wanting to be on my bump and likes to make biscuits on it. If I dare move to leave the room he's right behind me, scratches at the bathroom door when i'm on the loo or in the shower, comes upstairs every morning and pounces on my head and not my husbands.

My guess with yours (unless you are pregnant?) is that she misses her sister even though they weren't that close and you are the chosen affection replacement.

I would take her to the vets just for a check over to make sure no issues and maybe try a feliway plug in to calm her down if she is stressed?

Thanks @samlh. No, not pregnant. I had thought that about missing her sister but like I said, they were never overly close.

She doesn't seem stressed as such, more like an attachment thing. She is literally lying on my arm right now as she can't get on my lap because my laptop is on it!
