Pet insurance

I'm thinking of getting pet insurance for my two 8 month old kittens and am a bit overwhelmed my all the choices and options. I'm thinking of going for lifetime cover with pet protect which works out at just under £12 and covers up to £4,000 per year. I was wondering whether anyone has had any good or bad experiences with pet protect?

Also wondering whether £4,000 is enough to cover most emergencies. Has anyone spent wildly more than this in a year? Thanks! Smile

I'm with Bought by Many with my 2. Think my policy has £15k cover for each
Haven't heard of Pet Protect

I'm with Tesco who have paid out a lot for my boy with no questions asked
Triaditis cost nearly £3000 - that was just one day in out of hours, overnight in my own vet for 2 days and an ultrasound scan with a specialist. Plus bloods/meds etc

Yes without hesitation based on my own experience, just go and get it.

Thanks all. Yes I think I'll go ahead and get it. Had a cat growing up and my parents never had insurance for him. Think that we were very lucky that he never had anything wrong with him - especially as he lived until he was 20 and was out all night every night! I don't think it's worth the risk though.

Personally, I would go for a higher limit as vet bills can soon add up. Despite their higher premium, I like Petplan as they pay up with little drama plus a lot of vets will claim directly from them.
Our lad ran up £2500 for a 3 night stay, ultrasounds, blood tests and medication. If he needed surgery it would have been way higher. He was 2 at the time.
Our old cat didn't have lifetime cover (long story) and ran up nearly £10k one year, Petplan covered £3k. The next year she became diabetic as a result of her pancreas being damaged from previous years illness and Petplan paid out even though we weren't sure if they would.

PetPlan - my old boy has arthritis and it covers it year after year. Bearing in mind the lives he has lost we have broken even but in hindsight I probably should have just tucked £50 a month in a cat account.

Tesco have Been fab with my expensive pair. I'd get the maximum coverage you can afford. Triaditis and jaw issues both came to well over £5k each.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/04/2021 17:07

We care currently up to £22k worth of claims.

Please do get insurance for your kittens. My companion animals are all with PetPlan/NFU. Neither have ever refused payment and have been consistent in their financial and personal support.
