Strange purr

My one and a half year old male cat has been lying on my knee tonight being cuddled and I've noticed his pure sounds different - almost crackly and hoarse. Does anyone know possible causes of this? Should I see the vet ASAP or keep an eye for a few days and see how he is? He is eating normally and running around max outside as usual today so no obvious indication of him being under the weather otherwise

Thanks

Maybe his purr is overused? Are you spoiling him too much op?

suzzze · 31/03/2021 19:43

I don't think so. We have a very busy household and he is a very outdoorsy cat so spends his day running about the farm land behind our house and the other half sleeping in his bed. We have a cuddle around this time every night when I can finally relax but he sits for around half an hour with me before moving on to the bean bag 😂 he isn't fussed over all day or anything, as much as I would like to!

Maybe it's an angry purr then for your neglect??

This sounds bonkers, but cats can get hay fever. Especially if he's been running around farmland.

I think it was a joke, OP.

Funnily enough, my own hay fever kicked in today! I didn't know cats could suffer from it too. I'll have a read up about it, thanks Smile

Sorry, I am not great at picking up on jokes Blush I was trying to work out how I was being neglectful when my cat is so happy and that would have bothered me for a while so glad you pointed that out! Thanks

Sorry op!! Good job I didn't suggest you rehome him as you obviously aren't a great dcat servant!
Oh and btw, photos are sort of compulsory on The Litter tray.
*not joking!!

Mine have different purrs for different occasions. One even has hoarse miaws at times Smile. If you are afraid of lung disease try listening to his breathing instead of his purring. As long he is not affected mood, food and energy-wise I would just keep an eye on him. Perhaps call the vet tomorrow for advise.
