2 out of 3 weeks of quarantining after moving, my Siamese is losing it :(

We moved 2 weeks ago and my Siamese cat is beyond unhappy, he's just literally miaowing all day, in anguished tones. He's absolutely desperate to get out. We've done all the right things, several feliway plugins, lots of litter trays, lots of cuddles, I'm even giving him pills for anxiety. Do we dig in and wait another week to let him out? Or is 2 weeks actually enough so that he doesn't wander too far? He loves the outdoors and is watching all the birds in the garden and going slowly insane. Any other advice is very welcome - we are all so sick of the noise and he's obviously really stressed. :(

We always let ours out offer two weeks.

MrsJamin · 31/03/2021 08:59

Reading that back, it sounds like I am giving him random pills - they were prescribed by the vet, I might add!

Let him out supervised and just before his normal feeding time.

All cats have their own personality and you know that better than any guidelines.

You could also try the buttering of feet old wives tale.

Oh and take a camera with you

2 weeks is fine

Chewbecca · 31/03/2021 09:31

I didn’t wait 3 weeks when we moved, not sure I even managed 2 tbh.

UglyHoose · 31/03/2021 09:35

Would he go on a harness? I walked mine on a harness several times a day for the first couple of weeks to get them used to the area and then let them out. They were literally climbing the walls.

MrsJamin · 31/03/2021 10:03

Oh yes we tried a harness too - but he was so freaked out by the harness it made him even more stressed! Perhaps it's enough time now. We just don't want them to get lost!

I have Siamese and always let them out after two weeks. Preferably when they’re hungry and it’s drizzling, otherwise just hungry. An angry, anxious Siamese is best avoided

We bought a crate and took ours out into the garden but in the crate he didn't like it at first but we did this on week 3 every day and sat out there with him so he could get used to the poses and smells of the new neighbour hood. We then let him out on his own on week 4 but sat out in the garden when he was out loose so that he could still hear and smell us.

MrsJamin · 31/03/2021 10:17

@OwlBasket He's just a ball of frustration! I think we will do short trips outside in the garden with him with some dreamies so he doesn't go too far. Thanks everyone. This has been the most stressful part of moving, hands down!

Poses= noises Smile

cushioncovers · 31/03/2021 10:20

Yes I spent more time fretting about loosing the cat when we moved than anything else so I sympathise

MrsJamin · 31/03/2021 17:17

Well we opened the catflap this morning and I currently have a quiet contented cat on my lap, so I think that counts as a success - thanks all for your advice!
