New Kitten Advice

In 20 days (not that I'm counting), I go to pick up a new kitten. It's been a LONG time since my old boy was a kitten and I'm wondering if any of you have any advice re making it a bit easier for Mouse to be taken away from his mum & litter. I'm already feeling guilt about that!

Should I drape the cat carrier in a scarf on the way home so as not to startle him in the car or keep it open? (40min drive)
I live on my own so there won't be anyone else fussing him too much but should I just pop his carrier in a cosy place and wait for him to come to me? I'd like to make it as least traumatic as possible...

What a beautiful kitty. I'm not really experienced with kittens, I've mostly taken in older strays. Id keep the carrier closed in the car, in case he decides to pup out and ends up peddling the carGrin Leaving him in the carrier is a good idea, until he's ready to pop out. Would you be able to take something from the place he'll be leaving which has scent on it?

Thank you @Want2beme

Yes, apparently he'll come with something scented of 'home' be it a favourite toy or blanket. I'll pop a blanket in the carrier anyway but can easily swap it for his.
