FIV - prognosis?

Found out yesterday, after my 10yr old furry boy had a seizure (after months of traipsing backwards and forwards to the vets for a fortune's worth of tests and meds), that he has FIV and his white blood cell count is pretty much zero.
He's been given antibiotics to try and fight off an infection and we're going back on Monday.

Much googling has shown me loads of stories of cats with FIV living long and happy lives but I suspect they are cases where the FIV has picked up at an earlier stage. He had another seizure this morning and while he's had a bit to eat and some cuddles, he's been flat out for most of the day. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with cats in late stage FIV who have been poorly but then rallied to have a good quality of life for a while longer?

I don't have much to tell you. I've had dozens of FIV positive cats - they all lived long and healthy lives and ended up dying at an advanced age of something completely unrelated. I've never known one where the cause of death was in fact the FIV (although sometimes it certainly doesn't help).

I hope your boy rallies.

Thanks. Whether it's the FIV itself or the fact that it's decimated his immunity to the point that his little body has been ravaged by something else, he's had a shocking decline. In the last few months he's gone from being a healthy, outgoing, strapping lad to a scrawny creature who sometimes looks like he's given up on life. Periodically he's perked up, which gave me a bit of hope that he could get over whatever it was that was wrong, if we got the right diagnosis (vet initially thought it was urinary tract disease). After yesterday's diagnosis, I'm beginning to think that's less and less likely.
