Tips for clipping Snorg single handed.

She's got knots on her tummy and I can't get her into the groomers. I've ordered some electric clippers. She's a very good girl so I'm not expecting to be shredded! But she's very wriggley when she wants to be!

Very very long leather gauntlets, full set of chainmail, eye protection and a full face visor and helmet.
Whiskey or strong drink of your choice for afterwards.
Actually just have the alcohol before trying as well.

I've managed to clip mats out when the cat is very, very relaxed. One mat at a time and don't expect to get it all done in one go. Get her into a comfortable position on your lap, or between your knees at ground level, with the relevant mat upwards and your arms around her. Hold the mat in one hand and the clippers in the other, using your arms like a seatbelt to contain her. It's not easy.

Sometimes I've been lucky and managed to clip mats out when the cat has been in the position Snorg is in in the photo without trying to hold the cat too.

Good luck.

I can pretty much guarantee that these will not be required. She's exceptionally placid. She just turns into an eel when she's had enough!

I'm so annoyed with myself for forgetting to brush her tummy. It doesn't usually get like that.

No help on the single-handed front. But my vets are great. Maybe once or twice a year it happens, but can get mine booked in with the nurses. It means he’s more comfortable as he “knows” the space and the people.

Much better than me trying to wrestle an eel-like creature whilst worrying about causing damage with clippers!

The vet used to do our old boy who is sadly no longer with us. He behaved for vet so it was done in no time. Of course he ignored us for a few hours after to teach us a lesson. 😂 I’d definitely just make an appointment for the vet to sort it.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2021 09:20

Yes. I ordered the clippers and then remembered the vets. But not sure if they would do it at the minute. They wouldn't do their routine Heath checks.

It’s worth giving them a call to ask. It can pull on her and cause discomfort so hopefully they’ll do it.

She’s gorgeous. 💕 So much fur!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2021 09:59

If all else . They are going to the cattery this week. One of the girls spends hours brushing her, as she's her favourite. I could take the clippers and ask her and her friend to do it.

I had to get Ginger groomed the other week and the lady used rescue remedy, a dab on the inside of each ear and wow wow wow, he's a pretty chilled cat anyway but he was super chilled, laid there and let her brush them all out.

Furries · 28/03/2021 13:18

That’s bad re the vets, why wouldn’t they do their annual health checks? Am assuming due to Covid? If so, that’s really poor of them. So many potential problems could be picked up in time at a routine check. Also, you might want to check your insurance policy as am sure they’d have a sneaky clause in there to say policy is invalid if annual check-ups aren’t maintained.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2021 14:22

They had a check up with their jabs in the summer. But I have them checked every 6 months. I pay for the health plan as well. So was a bit miffed to not be getting my moneys worth!

Covid regs on animal grooming are that it's fine as long as it's welfare grooming (as opposed to just for looking good), so you should be able to get them done?

cricketmum84 · 28/03/2021 18:21

I'm sorry I don't have any advice except for a rather strong G&T when you are done Gin

But just had to say she is bloody magnificent! That face is saying she totally knows you are planning on clipping her and she won't make it easy 😂 she looks like a right character!

Skyliner001 · 28/03/2021 18:28

Oh my god 😍

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2021 19:12

Well I've had a go. And she was as good as gold. Not at all wriggly. Some of them are much worse than I thought, so I suspect it's going to be a vet nurse job.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/03/2021 19:13

@Allergictoironing yes. She's already been. There just aren't any appointments for a couple of weeks.

Well done for giving it a go (you’re braver than me!). And well done to Snorg, hope some Dreamies were offered as a reward!

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2021 08:55

Yes. Dreemies were certainly offered!

Just had another go at a very large and tricky Matt. I have just discovered a could of minor scratches on my arm! But she was still exceptionally good!

And totally my fault for wearing a t shirt!
