It's been over a day now, very unusual for him to be out this long, he is a big eater and is always in and out for his food and will always come back in about 8pm to settle down for the night.
He was sick on Monday (not fur-ball) but had eaten since then and seemed fine, we saw him asleep on our shed roof yesterday morning which is normal for him then not seen him since.
I need any tips to try get him back? We've obviously been out calling his name, shaking his treats, put his sleeping cushion out in the garden so he might smell it. Knocked round our neighbours although I'll go further afield to the houses behind tomorrow.
He chipped but no one has alerted the company of anything.
My plan tomorrow is call round the vets and local rescues - anything else I can be doing?
He's such a big softie and nor the brightest bless him, I'm just worried he's sick and has taken himself off somewhere quiet and we can help him 😢

Local FB group with a photo and post asking people to check sheds and garages. With the warmer weather people are doing more in their garden & more diy so cats can easily get locked in.

Join (if not already) next door.co.uk there are always notices for lost -and then found!-cats.

I hope he turns up soon.

Sorry forgot to mention I've posted on Facebook, but I'll try next door now thank you

Yes there was a lady who did a study into lost cat behaviour. I found it super helpful when my cat went missing for 2 weeks. Sure enough, he was only a few streets away.

The main takeout is to do an intense physical search and to do it yourself - don't rely on posters, flyers, Facebook etc. Appreciate it's hard during COVID (I'm not in the UK so not sure what restrictions are) but get out there and walk the streets if you can.

When one of ours went missing we went door to door to see if people had seen her and for them to check their sheds and garages etc after several hours of being out and canvassing the whole area we came back to find her on the doorstep waiting to be let in
We think she had got stuck in someone’s shed or garage and when they went to check she ran out and home

Otherwise canvas the area and put up lots of posters and see if anyone has had a delivery where the van doors were left open
Friend lost their cat. He was found when a delivery driver noticed a cat living in his front garden and put 2+2 together and friend and her cat were reunited.

I wish they had tracking devices like find my iPhone. It would solve a lot of worry.

@Bythemillpond Tracking for cats exists. Mine are currently using Tail It GPS.

@violetbunny I wish they'd be able to do it via their microchip as ours doesn't wear a collar, I'm sure the technology is there probably just costs too much to be viable. Although right now I'd pay it to find out where our cat is! Still no sign of him this morning, off out with posters and go knocking door to door to hopefully get people to check their sheds etc

We had something akin to Tail it

The cat we tried it out on always came back minus the collar. It tells you where the collar is to retrieve it but not where the cat is.

We found him in an overturned plant pot in a garden a few doors down, very dirty and shaky on his feet and now at the bets so hopefully they can find out what the issue is and fix it

That’s fantastic news

How on earth did he get under the plant pot

Everythingiswonderful · 25/03/2021 13:52

So glad you’ve found him. I hope the vets say he will be okay.

flossiegrippiter · 25/03/2021 14:43

Not good news, acute kidney failure, vet thinks it's something he was born with as he's only 3 and starts to present when the kidneys lose 75% of function, she said they'll give him a shot and fluids for the next 24hrs but current there's no bladder function to show the kidneys are working at all so not looking good. Just so glad we found him in time so he knows we're there and he's warm and comfortable

Oh that’s awful! Like you say, you found him and their willing to give him a chance.

Everythingiswonderful · 25/03/2021 18:40

So sorry to hear that op Flowers

violetbunny · 25/03/2021 23:47

Oh no.... I'm sorry to hear that. I am glad you found him in time to be able to make him comfortable. He will appreciate it I am sure.
