Kitten heart murmur

Morning,
I'm hoping for some advice please.
I'm hoping to get a kitten, she's had her first jabs and the vet noted she had a grade 1 heart murmur. Now I believe this isn't unusual in kittens and doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong. Does anyone have any experience of this? Also, would this affect insurance?
Thanks

Hi,
My last two kittens from Battersea both had grade one heart murmurs. I had to see the Battersea vet before we could take them, who warned us that this might mean we would never get insurance covering heart issues. He was palpably relieved when we told him we didn't bother with pet insurance so it wasn't an issue.
At their first yearly check there was no evidence of a murmur. They are now three and perfectly healthy.
A previous cat developed a minor heart murmur aged about 10 - but it only showed up every other year at vet exams Grin. He lived to 20.
It wouldn't worry me.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not overly concerned about the murmur, everything I've looked at suggests it not unusual in kittens due to rapid growth, and usually disappears after a few months. I'm more concerned about the insurance side, it seems a little unnecessary of the vet to have made a note of it when it's so common in small kittens. I've put a call in to the vet I use to see what their opinion is. To be honest, I don't think it will put me off getting her, she's so adorable.

One of ours was diagnosed with a heart murmur at first vet visit - it’s never been picked up again and he’s four now. Think we took out insurance before the vet visit so it wasn’t an issue.

The breeder was being responsible and getting the kitten health checked, vaccinated, and flea and worm treated. But this has lead to a problem with getting insurance unfortunately.

Our cat was diagnosed at 3. He was a rescue from the RSPCA and it was the first vets visit. They hadn’t picked it up before. It was grade 3 (now progresses to grade 4) and our vet was amazed if hadn’t been picked up by the RSPCA vet. The murmur progressed and six months later the vet gave him 6 months to live if we were lucky. He was put on medication. 11 years later he is still going strong and proving our vet wrong! Medication is expensive but we have reduced the cost by just getting prescriptions from the vets and then buying the tablets online. Throughout the years the vets were very keen to do lots of investigations (regular scans / blood tests etc). We did do these for the first 5/6 years but in the end there didn’t seem much point. Our cat is on the maximum amount of medication so even if they found something, they wouldn’t be able to change the medication to help.

We didn’t bother with insurance. They found the heart murmur before we had sorted insurance (he hadn’t been outside so we hadn’t bothered!) We investigated, some said they wouldn’t cover his heart problems, others said they would cover up to a certain amount. I think it depends on the policy.

I wouldn’t worry. Our cat is the most gorgeous thing ever and worth every penny we have spent on him (there have been a lot of pennies Grin!!)

I certainly have mixed feelings about insurance. My last cat was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 10, admittedly the blood tests, etc were covered by the insurance, but the medicated food was not....
