Fat cat and skinny cat

As the title suggests I have one of each, a chunk with an enormous appetite and a skinny little thing that only picks her food.

How do I stop the Fat one eating all the food I try to give to the Skinny one? Usually if I give them food at the same time, Fat cat eats all of hers and Skinny just has a couple of bites and leaves the room. I then usually remove Skinny's bowl and give it back to her when she comes asking for food. If I then leave the room even for a minute I will find her gone and Fat Cat is helping herself to the meal.
I can't shut Skinny into a room with her food as she just cries and wants to get out without eating anything.

At this rate I will end up with one enormous cat and one very lean one. What can I do?

Microchip cat feeder for the skinny one...!

dementedpixie · 18/03/2021 08:02

Microchip feeders? Are your cats microchipped?
They are quite expensive though

Orchidsinbloom · 18/03/2021 08:02

Does that work with wet food? She doesn't eat much dry food and prefers wet.

Oh they do seem quite costly. Shock
Fat is microchipped, Skinny will get microchipped in a couple of weeks when she gets spayed. Been trying to fatten her up for her spay as well..

Another vote for the microchip feeder. We used one for our older cat as she was a grazer and had lost too much weight from being poorly. Expensive but worth it. We put wet food in.

Only thing was our fat boy worked out how to eat out of it with her, so we contacted the company and they sent a hood attachment that prevented him stretching and eating with her. If he managed to barge in besides her, as soon as she moved away the lid would close on him.

We registered the chip of one of the other cats as he was also on the slender side, but he didn’t take to it at all. We didn’t really press the issue as he was young.

We did the full training they recommend as well, luckily the old girl mastered it, but our slender boy hated the noise and movement. Thinking of getting it out and trying the training again, as we now have 2 cats on a diet and the slender boy is so hungry I keep having to feed him extra away from the others, Maybe he will have motivation to learn this time!

Thanks @JasperLily

Guess I may have to look into investing in one. I'm just worried she won't take to it, but clearly our current arrangement doesn't work (grazer vs gobbler).

Another thing, do cats' feeding habits change after spay? Skinny is currently a very active and inquisitive kitten who doesn't stay put very long, but maybe this will change once she's been fixed?

Have you tried Skinny on different types of food? Mine had pate when they were tiny, so will only ever eat pate style wet food. They prefer certain brands only.

Kitten food is also higher in calories so may also help Skinny put on weight.

One of those bowls for greedy ddogs for Fat dcat?

Orchidsinbloom · 18/03/2021 19:26

Thank you both.

Skinny cat isn't actually a bad Eater as such, think she eats most things I have given her. The problem is that she is a slow eater, a grazer, which of course causes problems in the Fat cat household.
Skinny was on whiskas kitten food when she came from the rescue, but it made her windy and her poos really stank , and also I couldn't get it anywhere at one point, so have slowly introduced higher meat content food. And of course we had the problem of Fat cat helping herself to the high calorie kitten meals..Hmm

My female cats have all put on weight after being spayed - one ended up being the chunky one after she overtook her brother in size and appetite Grin
