Will my cat ever settle down?

She's 4, we adopted her 3 years ago. She's tortie and very laid back. She comes on my lap and Will Not Lie Down. Either she sits upright and just stares at me, or she kneads me or she sticks her claws in me. Her sister is my OH's cat and goes to sleep on his lap (like a cat should). Why won't mine do that???

All cats are very different. They just do what pleases them and your little one isn't a full-on lapcatGrin Neither of mine are, they just like their own space. They visit me, but prefer to sit/lie on their own.

She’s training you. Once you accept that you are hers and not the other way round then she may settle.
On a less lighthearted note we adopted an 18 month old girl. She sat on my lap about two or three times in 17 years. She used to stand and knead. I suspect someone swiped her for that so she was scared to settle.

I wish mine would too, she recoils when we even try to stroke her unless she’s tired! The fact that yours kneads you means she loves you and that’s her particular way of showing it.

Thanks for the responses. I love her to bits and admire her feistiness - but blimey she's irritating!

We have three (mum and adult babies). Mum is a total lap cat with DH, the ginger boy likes a cuddle for a few mins each day and is very loving but curls up on his own the rest of the time, the torbie girl hardly ever sits with us but loves a fuss on the ground/comes to see you when you’re on the loo 😂

Torties are known for being independent.

I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer her to choose not to sit bold upright on my lap or knead/claw me. I think she thinks that I like it.
