Foster cat

Good evening! Today we've passed the home check to foster cats for a small local rescue and are getting our first visitor next weekend. We will have a cosy cat bed, covered litter tray, two bowls. We have a cosy room with some high places that we can close off - and in an evening when everything is quieter we can open the door to the living room where dh and I sit and hope with time the cat will start to join us.

Does anyone have any tips? Ways we can help the cat feel at ease? Thank you!

It sounds like you’ve got everything covered.

Good luck!

He's here - very nervous. We've left him to explore his room but did get a couple of purrs out of him earlier and he's eaten a bit of food. He's a beauty, hoping we can help him settle so he can find his forever home :-)

That's if you don't become a foster fail!!!!

MisgenderedSwan · 15/03/2021 20:43

I hope not! The fostering is supposed to scratch the itch 🤣 he's just joined us in the living room and keeps creeping nearer. He's so cute!

Oh! How lovely! 🥰

How lovely. We've always adopted rescue cats. I'd love to foster, but space constraints mean we can't. Our first started his life with us by sleeping on our bed the first night. Slept there every night of his 20 years. Third and fourth aer snoring contentedly as I write. One at my feet, and the other on their bean bag in our french windows :D

First night done. Couldn't spot him this morning until ds spotted him behind the books on the shelf! He's used his litter tray in the night so that's good. He came running for his supper last night. He is a tiny male cat about 7mo, roughly how much wet food should he have a day? I'm thinking 2-3 pouches?

haha I could never foster I'd be a massive foster fail Grin

@MisgenderedSwan the packs will tell you how much. From memory a kitten will have a pouch night and morning and a handful of dry lunch and bed time

MisgenderedSwan · 16/03/2021 07:58

The pack says 4 pouches for 4kg but he's nowhere near that big. He's hungry and skinny because he wasn't eating and has been stressed out. I'll aim for 2-3 and keep an eye on his appetite :-)

Is it adult cat food? Kitten food gives higher protein and nutrients for a growing kitten. But use what you have been given! Hasn't the rescue to you his weight and food requirements? If not can you hold him? If so, pick him up and weigh yourself and him. Then Weigh yourself and deduct the lower from the higher to find out his approximate weight. If he has been starved ( one of ours had been ) then you don't want to give him too much. Or too little . He sounds adorable I am such a sucker for cats ( we currently have 3)

Does anyone have any recommendations for teething cats? He's shredding tough cardboard boxes and being a bit bitey - is there anything I can do to help? I know about bitey dogs but never dealt with such a young cat Smile
