I need the deepest litter tray in the world, but not a top loader - any recommendations?

One of my stupid cats stands and wees over the top of the back of the tray. Currently have thjs which is 25cm high at the back.

here

So needs to be taller than that, neither cat will use the top loader cat litter tray they have. I’d prefer a tray which is all in one rather than 2 halves clipped together....because of leakage through the join.

Does anyone know of anything please?

I would go to b and m and buy a deep storage container - dispose of the lid. You know those clear, big, deep ones for toys or bedding etc.

I've got this one for my vigorous digger, I've taken the flaps off and the lid can be removed easily. I hated the 2 part ones I tried with my last cat but this is perfect.

Washing up bowl? My daft cat peed in that (even though there was no litter and it was in the fecking sink) twice. I think because it looks like a litter tray.

iklboo · 12/03/2021 19:08

We use an old hamster cage base

NuclearDH · 12/03/2021 19:36

Thanks, I’ve just ordered the eBay one. My older cat I don’t think would jump into a storage type box or that would have been a cheaper solution. I can’t face trying to cut a cat hole in one and smooth it off.

You know how some people are “pram huns”? I’m a total cat litter tray hun, it’s a never ending quest to find the perfect one. 🤞🤞

Op I don’t see a problem in wanting the purrfect litter tray!
(Sorry ‘‘twas like catnip - I’ll switch the lights if as I leave)

Grin I must be a litter tray hun too. I have tried so many, and nothing that worked for my last cat worked for new cat.

If you have the space, you could place the litter tray on top of a tuff tray lined with newspaper/old towels.

The base for a gerbil cage (or similar size container) would be excellent.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2021 20:38

Buy a robot one. It looks like a concrete mixer and self cleans.

lljkk · 12/03/2021 20:38

Our old cat still managed to jump into these.

That is such a good idea...

OP, search for "really useful box" and you'll get loads of options for these plastic storage containers.

NuclearDH · 12/03/2021 20:41

My old cat has only just started using a cat litter tray after a year of weeing on the floor. Before that she went in the garden but now I think has dementia and won’t go outside. Changing from something which looks like a tray to something which looks like a box I think would have her weeing on the floor again.

They’re currently on a rubber car boot liner to save the carpet. But the wall and skirting board get it as well and I don’t want the trays pulled out any further into the room as then I can’t open the utility room door. They fit nicely in an alcove as it is.

Oh yuck.

I feel your pain... ours tend to go outside, but on the occasions I've had to keep them in, thus necessitating the use of a litter tray, one of mine regularly misses "accidentally on purpose" (or so it would seem) and I dread checking it/the vicinity.

Poppins2016 · 12/03/2021 20:57

Hmm... would a litter tray with cat flap work? Something like this? www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/flip-cat-hooded-loo

NuclearDH · 12/03/2021 21:18

That last one wouldn’t work. In my litter tray graveyard I have one like that. Had to remove the flap so the older one would go in, but then she sometimes still wouldn’t as i don’t think liked the roof.

Younger one still got wee outside as it got through the join.

That type won't work with a high-peeing cat (or high-pooing cat in the case of my last cat when he got old!). The join between base and lid creates a lovely gutter and leak point and they're a right faff to clean.

Oldraver · 13/03/2021 12:17

Yes in the past I have used a storage bin

JasperLily · 13/03/2021 23:00

We use these as we had an elevator pee cat, who used to start off correctly and then rise as she pee’d. Still wasn’t great if she got in and turned around though!

It’s only 2.5cm higher than the one you use though so not sure it will make a difference

Catit hooded tray on Amazon (£21.99) has a leak proof design (see the design details) and the flap can be folded right back on its self so it looks more like a high walled tray than an enclosed box if that makes sense.

I really rate it.
