Using a blanket as a “special friend”

Not my girls, obviously they are too ladylike for that kind of carry on.

My aunts stray has moved in and taken over. He’s got a favourite blanket that he likes to err play with. My aunt got him done last year. If she try’s to throw it away he drags it out of the bin. He also takes it outside to play. He takes it up and down the street into her house around the back way.

What can she do to discourage this habit, she’s quite a queezy person and also she’s terrified of the bruiser. She won’t even go to toilet incase she wakes him up.

"play" means humping? Is he neutered?

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2021 15:28

Yes he was done over a year ago

Eh? How is a cat able to physically prevent a human from throwing a blanket away? Am I missing something and being very dense?

If it's just this blanket then surely you just chuck it in the bin outside and that's that?

Toilenstripes · 08/03/2021 15:32

Honestly there’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing. He’s obviously finding comfort in this item. Just let him carry on and ignore it.

GeidiPrimes · 08/03/2021 15:32

I don't know there's much she can do - it's usually impossible to stop cats doing what they want BUT - he may well just get it out of his system. Both my neutered cats got quite obsessed with shagging soft furnishings/clothes for a time, but neither do it anymore.

GeidiPrimes · 08/03/2021 15:34

And yeah, completely harmless, it's not like they're jizzing all over the place if they lack balls.

Easterbunnygettingready · 08/03/2021 15:46

Is his name Top Cat?

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/03/2021 16:18

Better a blanket you can wash than a cushion.

PatsyStone39 · 08/03/2021 16:47

Yup - one of ours does just that. We call it the "wanky blanky" Grin

EachandEveryone · 08/03/2021 17:58

Oh god but he drags it outsides and takes it with him. He’s a stray that the neighbour threw out for scratching the furniture 😞

What do you actually mean, though? Mine does this with soft things he can pick up with his teeth. Even jumpers I'm wearing if they're baggy enough! It's normal cat behaviour and it brings them comfort.

Easterbunnygettingready · 08/03/2021 18:20

Shagging the blanket isn't for comfort...

Elderly (neutered) cat often shagged my arm. Blanket-shagging fine by me.

Gatekeeper · 08/03/2021 18:32

My old boy used to do this...neutered at eight months and even at 8 he used to milk tread on my jumper over and over until his little winky stuck out and then he would wash it!!!!!

Bargebill19 · 08/03/2021 22:44

Parents old dog had his friend the cushion - straight after dinner he would be in the sitting room getting friendly. We all sat in the kitchen until he had finished. Everyone knew to avoid that cushion.
Not had a cat do the same yet. Although they go mad for my overall. (Get high on disinfectant??)

DwangelaForever · 08/03/2021 22:49

My mum bought me fuzzy Harry Potter hedwig pjs for Christmas and they're my neutered boys new lover. Grin

He will hump anything made of fleecy material, so fleecy throws, house coats etc but these pjs are a new ballgame for him he is obsessed.
