Fostering kitten

We are in a country where lots of pets are being dumped as people can no longer afford to look after them. A local cat charity was looking for foster homes and an 8month old girl arrived this afternoon.

The charity caught her on the street and brought her to us with instructions that she be kept in a quiet room with her food and bed for around 5 days but that we go in frequently to just sit with her and let her get used to us.

She's so sweet but she is cuddled up at the back of a cat igloo bed and is very very shy.

We are hoping to get her used to family life so she can go to a forever home.

Mum seems very well, she is eating stacks and occasionally escaping the kittens to sit on the other end of the sofa from me and watch tv with me.

Foster, you say?😀

EachandEveryone - I know! I keep telling the DC that they can't come back to the UK with us when we move back in August.

I suspect it might be a wrench to let go but apart from the difficulty of bringing a cat back how would we ever chose who to keep and who to let go!

Well i think the mother would come tops plys one. How hard is it? Are you in a country where they will get rehomed easily? Can you start a gofundme page? People do bring their pets back but i have no clue how it works.

We'd definitely keep Mum as I think she'll be the hardest to rehome. The charity seem to think it will be relatively easy to rehome the kittens but that remains to be seen.

We are straight into an extension/ renovation when we get back which I'm also worried would stress the cats out. We can probably bring 2/3 cats back but I'm not sure it will be best for them given the noisy building work.

Really Mum would be happier as a farm cat I think. She just about tolerates us but hisses if you go too close. She'll sit within 2m of me if I don't move or look at her but won't let anyone near enough to touch although that may get better as the kittens get bigger.

I couldn't bear to think if her being dumped again though.

We took in a rescue cat who had 5 kittens after about 5 weeks, and we kept Mum and 3 kittens and 2 kittens went to exh.

EachandEveryone · 12/04/2021 02:32

You’d have to keep them in for afew weeks anyway a garage type thing would be ok

So snuggly and cute.

We're being very careful not to touch them too much but they're too a tummy.

A little update on my 7 cats!

They are so sweet and jumping and playing all over the place now.

Mum hasn't got any friendlier or happier sadly so the plan for her is to go to a semi feral colony on a farm with her sister once she has been spayed and had vax.

We are keeping x2 of the kittens and bringing them back to the UK when we come home for good in Aug. 2 of the kittens are nearly ready to go to their forever home with a lovely family here. 2 are as yet unadopted but we still have a bit of time.

Mum will be ok, domestic life just isn’t for her.
