Kitten in heat

somethingelsethere · 05/03/2021 21:03

Hello!
So I have 2 kittens, bought from the same litter.
They are 10 months old.
I think both are in heat this week, based on a massive change in their behaviour.
They are not spayed. And I wanted them both to have a litter.
But not this young 😩 now I feel awful and scared for them if they have got pregnant, as they're just too young. Now contemplating just getting them spayed and not having any litters as I don't want them getting pregnant too young 😩
When will I be able to tell if they have got pregnant? What are the first signs?
Has anyone had a cat have kittens this young?
I haven't seen any Toms about and don't think there are any that local to us, so they may not have been mated anyway. 🤞😴

you can put them on the pill? (Or used to be able to - presumably still a thing)

Ihoeihoeihoe · 05/03/2021 21:07

Surely you knew they’d come into heat before they were considered adult. Don’t breed them, there are enough domestic moggies to go around and then some. Just get them spayed so they are free to roam

EmmaC78 · 05/03/2021 21:11

Get them spayed now. Already too many unwanted cats. No idea why you would think it was a good idea to let them have a litter.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 05/03/2021 21:14

WTF. Do not let them out until they've been spayed. Being 'mated' is not pleasant for female cats and they can be injured, plus all the risks with pregnancy and birth. Get them spayed ASAP.

Easterbunnygettingready · 05/03/2021 21:14

Very young dcats don't make good dm's. Are you prepared to bottle feed when the babies need feeding and she has no milk. Ime that is what happens...
How were you planning on finding homes?
Btw feeds are 2 hourly even during the night...

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 05/03/2021 21:15

Are they vaccinated?

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2021 21:16

Why do you want them to have a litter?

You will need to keep them under strict lockdown because they will try every way to get out.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/03/2021 21:18

I mean cats don’t even stop growing till their one so they are barely developed themselves.

Hoppinggreen · 05/03/2021 21:18

Why the hell are you letting them out if they haven’t been spayed?
And why the hell would you want them to have a litter?
Get them to a vet ASAP, if they are pg the vet might be able to deal with it while spaying them

Vinorosso74 · 05/03/2021 21:23

Seriously, do not let them out. Keep doors and windows shut. Call the vets and get them spayed asap. There is no need for then to have kittens: it does not benefit them, the kittens or all the other homeless cats.
Have you had the cats to the vets for vaccinations and microchipping at all?
FFS be a responsible owner. I, and several others on The Litter Tray volunteer for cat charities and see the outcome of letting your cat have just the one litter-dead kittens, dead mum, doubly incontinent mum who can't be cured so has to be PTS, too many cats needing homes, how would you rehome the kittens safely? I could go on. Have a look at Cats Protection website on the benefits of neutering.
Rant over.

elsaesmeralda · 05/03/2021 21:26

When I was little we had a young cat that got pregnant, she just left the kittens as she didn't know what to do with them it was so sad, my mom had to feed them etc a couple didn't make it. Get them spayed ASAP op 👍🏻

Soubriquet · 05/03/2021 21:30

Why would you want them have a litter?!

What good reason can you say for bringing new kittens in the world?!

Seriously?!

Get them spayed

Youngatheart00 · 05/03/2021 21:34

I don’t get why you wouldn’t have had them spayed at 6 months or shortly after.

They don’t need to have a litter. The kindest thing to do is wait for this to pass, give them lots of love but BOOK IN TO GET THEM DONE!!

Not sure if @thecatneuterer is still on here

Easterbunnygettingready · 05/03/2021 21:35

CavernousScream · 05/03/2021 21:37

Have you been letting 10 month old kittens unspayed outside? Of course Toms will have found in heat female cats. You’ve been extremely irresponsible and need to talk to your vet.

ChampagneCommunist · 05/03/2021 21:38

I am quite surprised at all the replies. All my cats over the past 20 years or so have had a litter and been good mothers.

No problems finding homes, more people want cats that there are kitten available.

Maybe it's just my area?

dementedpixie · 05/03/2021 21:39

FFS get them spayed ASAP. They don't need to have litters, there's enough stray cats and kittens already

seasidefishwife · 05/03/2021 21:39

I assume you want them to have a litter so you can sell the kittens? Poor cats. Get them spayed and make your money elsewhere. The world doesn't need more kittens.

gettingfedupagain · 05/03/2021 21:39

Cats don't go on heat.

Cats ovulate AFTER sex.

They are probably pregnant.

Vinorosso74 · 05/03/2021 21:39

Youngatheart thecatneuterer is still around but no doubt very busy. I would welcome her comments on this post Smile

WhiskersPete · 05/03/2021 21:41

Have you got any idea how many unwanted and suffering kittens there are in the world? Is this serious?

VimFuego101 · 05/03/2021 21:41

Why on earth do you want them to have a litter? There are enough unwanted cats needing homes.

somethingelsethere · 05/03/2021 21:41

Yes they are vaccinated and up to date with flea and worming. We have had monthly visits to the vet for health checks up till 6 months. The next check is at a year and for their booster jabs.
We have a large family who have all said that they'd like a kitten from us should they breed, so that is why we wanted to have the litter from them.
I didn't realise it was bad for them to mate, I just thought it was nature?
The kittens would never be unwanted. They'd be rehired to family and friends once old enough and vaccinated.

AnnaMagnani · 05/03/2021 21:42

Why did you want them to have a litter?

There are already too many kittens and cats in the world. Young cats make bad mums. Neutered cats don't regret not having been mums.

Keep them in and get them done!

Why on earth do people behave so irresponsibly? Depressing thread.
