Kitten after being spayed

Hey guys
My kitten (8 months) was spayed last Friday. Her stitches are on the side rather than her belly and the poor thing is wearing a cone.
She's been subdued all week about it but I took her to the vet on Monday and they told me she was fine. She is due to have the stitches out this Friday and come off which I was looking forward to as she clearly hates it. She also has daily medication at the moment.

However yesterday I noticed some pink thick pus or discharge coming out of the scar. I cleaned it gently with warm water and a cotton pad. She obviously feels discomfort as she did miaow a couple of times.
Today I noticed a little bit more so I called the vet who will see her later today. I wonder if it's infected.

Has anyone got experience of this with their cats? I hope it's not infection and for her sake I was really hoping the cone could come off.

She's been more sleepy and subdued as normal but still very affectionate and clingy. Purring when I pet her and always near me for cuddles.

She's also been desperate to venture outdoors but I don't feel comfortable with that even once the stitches are out as i worry she can hurt herself on branches or something. The scar is on her side rather then on her belly.

Any experiences would be good to hear. I know only the vet can answer some of these questions but any advice would be appreciated. I attached the photo :)

Yes, this happened to one of my cats. If it's infected the vet will give antibiotics and painkillers and depending on need, they may need to drain the wound. You'll need to leave her plastic collar on until it's cleared up.

I wouldn't think about letting her out until the wound is fully healed.

It's painful for them when this happens, but easily treated by the vet.

Thank you :(

Poor cat, she hates the cone so much.

Yes, it's awful seeing them thrown off balance by the cone. If it does turn out to be infected it should clear up quickly once it's been treated. Flowers

Yes it's infected. It does happen occasionally. Antibiotics should sort it out but sometimes they need to reopen and restitch the wound. Our clinic does keyhole surgery and internal dissolving stitches and no cone. I'm sure it's the cones that causes cats to feel out of sorts after spaying - not the spaying itself.

I'd agree with you. She just seems to want to sleep all day and that's because I think she doesn't want the stress of trying to navigate going anywhere.

I hope it isn't infected but sounds like it. I'm not sure how it did as she slept all week and had the cone on. I definitely won't let her out until the wound is cleared properly.

She likes the cone lots too , I think to make up for not being able to lick herself bless her

Yes, mine licked her cone. When it eventually came off she sat down and washed herself for two hours without stopping.

Yes my cat definitely cannot wait to lick herself. She's licking anything she can at the moment.

It turned out to be slightly infected, the vet prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics to start with. He was going to take the stitches out as well which I though was a bit early but then decided not to. I will bring her back tomorrow (day originally scheduled for stitches to be removed) and they will assess further. Still hoping if they take the stitches out they may remove the cone despite the infection but I'm probably wishful thinking!

Thanks all for your advice x
