Cremation

I usually bury my cats but I've just moved and I wanted Buns cremated so we can have our ashes scattered together when the time comes and also if I move again I can take her with me.
Its been a week now and I haven't heard anything. I don't want to keep pestering the crematorium - how long did you wait for the ashes to be returned?

I think it was about 2-3 weeks.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 25/02/2021 16:14

OK I'm being a bit premature then. Its been less than a week.

It depends on the level of service you have paid for. As a practice we pay for gold service so ashes are back in 4 days, standard service is a week.

So sorry you’ve lost your cat. It doesn’t help this time, but you or other posters who read this may like to know you can take your pet directly to the crematorium instead of going via the vets. I do this now and they are ready to be collected either the same or next day. It’s also slightly cheaper although I’d still do it this way regardless. So sorry again, I hope you hear from them soon.

Lonecatwithkitten · 26/02/2021 11:25

@CausingChaos2 crematoriums are not currently doing 'direct' cremations due to Covid.

CausingChaos2 · 26/02/2021 11:27

Not true. I was there only the week before last with my rabbit sadly.

Pancakeorcrepe · 26/02/2021 11:50

It might take a few weeks, because I think crematoriums collect from the vets once or twice a week. So imagine if collection day is Tuesday and unfortunately your pet died on a Wednesday, just that will add a few days or a week to the process already. If you have requested sole cremation so you get her ashes back, this will take a bit longer than communal cremation. My poor cat was euthanised on Wednesday last week and I'm also waiting to get his ashes.

@CausingChaos2 definitely true of our three local crematoriums. There maybe regional, but our three have been no owners since March last year.

The pet crematorium I use has fabulous staff and wouldn't mind at all if you phoned them. Give them a call and ask for an approximate timescale, they'll understand I'm sure.

Floralnomad · 26/02/2021 15:06

The pet crematorium we use picks up from the vet / home same day as you call them and returns ashes within a couple of days at most . We’ve used them for rabbits , cats , dogs and horses and the service is always extremely efficient and professional . Sorry for your loss @Shehasadiamondinthesky

GigantosaurusRex · 27/02/2021 09:22

It was a week for us.

Bargebill19 · 28/02/2021 18:52

Has just been 14 days for Fat Sam to come home and be scattered. Sorry for your loss op. 💐

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 28/02/2021 19:52

Thanks, I got her back today, it was less than a week. I didn't use my vets cremation service, I chose one by the sea a few miles away. They did a lovely job, they put her in a lovely scatter tube with a picture of a bluebell wood on it and I got a paw print and some of her fur back.
I have her safely at home now and may be anle to find the strength to empty the litter trays soon. I can't do it just yet because her pawprints are in them.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your dear companion. I just wanted to let you know that there are modern Barrows, where human and animal ashes can be placed together, in matching urns. The ashes can then be visited at any time.
