Does anyone keep litter trays in blanket boxes, or similar? Does it make much difference to tracking etc

Litter trays are currently kept in a box room, also used for storage. Tracking is a bit of a nightmare, as we have wooden floor throughout so it gets everywhere, and I have to empty the box room completely to be able to clear it.

I’m thinking of buying a couple of wooden blanket boxes, and carving out a ‘doorway’, but they are quite pricey, and I would have no other use for them so don’t want to waste money if they make little difference.

I have those rubber mats down already, but they don’t help a great deal, particularly with the one cat who is very animated when digging around in there. My thought process is that the box would at least catch it on all sides.

I need to also think about sorting a permanent work space out at home, box room would be ideal but obviously unpleasant to work alongside open trays! I have no other convenient spot to keep them in and am hoping the blanket box idea will be the magic solution.

You can buy covered cat litter trays with odour absorbing element I think. Also perhaps switch to a different litter? I switched to Biocatolet because of this - larger, pressed newspaper pellets. Much easier to clear up and, critically for me, less dust in the air when handling it.

Our litter tray is in the underthestairs cupboard with a cat flap in the cupboard door.

Hidden away, no smells, works for us.

I’ve tried covered litter trays but they still knock it around when climbing in and out. The blanket boxes would be longish, so tray on one end, entry on the other (so not jumping out right after scratching)

Tried various litters, but with 3 cats to please it’s hard to get all the requirements with any one type Smile the one I use now is clumping so easy to clean out, decent at covering the smells, and the cats are fine with it.

Would be ideal to keep it under the stairs but due to the lay out, the cupboard wouldn’t be easily accessible

Put the tray in a large plastic crate? Can get them from b and m etc cheaply. Use a hooded tray and no need for the lid from the crate.
I feel your pain. I’ve been forced to get worlds best cat litter this week - it has tracked everywhere. Fingers crossed sanicat is back in stock next week. The heavier, clay litters don’t seem to track so far.

I've found that a sisal mat works much better than the mats sold for catching litter. But some litter does spread further, lightweight litters like cats/worlds best are a bugger for flicking miles away, intersand spreads least IME.
