Harry - help needed!

How on earth do I stop him scratching his face, he looks like a boxer after 10 rounds. He's not constantly scratching so I'm not worried it's a skin condition and he's been flea'd.

I spoke to the vet this morning and they told me to clean it with hibiscrub and put Sudocrem on it (that was fun) but other than a pair of Bernie Sanders mittens I have no idea what to do! He's fine in himself, eating, playing and sleeping as normal but it just looks so sore.

I've attached a picture of him taken today and one of him looking normal!

No advice but that does look sore. Snorg sends love. And says she still thinks you are gorgeous.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/02/2021 20:41

Was it a telephone consultation?.

Mia184 · 08/02/2021 20:43

Could it be a food allergy?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 08/02/2021 20:56

Fluffy, it was a telephone consultation.

I haven't changed his food at all Mia so it shouldn't be a food allergy.

He's not scratching his face or worrying at it, it seems to be bothering me more than him. It's looking a bit better tonight thankfully. He had this back in the summer and we thought he'd done it rummaging in the bushes but he's hardly venturing out this weather!

Toddler, Harry sends his love to Snorg.

My parents cat had a similar thing on his back. But no one is quite sure what it isa

Toddlerteaplease · 09/02/2021 09:37

Could it be a bite?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/02/2021 10:22

Oh, dear poor Harry. :(

How about the collar of doom until it clears up?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/02/2021 10:29

Aww poor Harry.

AlfonsoTheSensible · 09/02/2021 14:55

Poor Harry.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/02/2021 18:18

The garden is catproofed so it can't be a bite, I think it's just him being brutal. He's been with me while I've been working and he's not be scratching so all I can think of is he's scratched, made it bleed and now keeps knocking the scab. Thankfully it looks a bit better today.

@YetAnotherSpartacus he had a collar when he broke his jaw. Apparently the vet put it on and he went mad and was practically doing cartwheels in the cage. They were trying to work out how to get it off him and then he ripped it off himself!

This is today's picture. He's caught the one above his eye again but it's so much better than yesterday.

Hibiscrubs pretty good stuff, if it doesn’t work you can always go back.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/02/2021 20:20

Just posted about my parents cat. They've also been given hibiscrub. I did wonder if it's a reaction to the salt used for gritting. Mithril's has coincided with the snow.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/02/2021 20:31

I hope he's ok. Harry doesn't leave the back garden (or the house this weather!) so I can rule out any normal issues. Not surprisingly with his track record!

Such a cute face! Is it possible that his claws have got longer (and sharper) due to not going out much, so he's doing more damage than usual when he scratches?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/02/2021 16:04

I think they have got sharper but the worse damage was after we clipped them! They don’t seem to have any rough edges so I’ve no idea what he’s doing. His face it looking better but he’s knocked the scab off the one above his eye so I’m keeping a check on that.

To use my Mum’s phrase, he’s like a bull in a china shop!

He’s not one for easily treated simple conditions is he?.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/02/2021 01:08

He's a very cute and expensive bull. 😂😂

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/02/2021 12:15

I took my expensive bull to the vet yesterday as he keeps knocking the scab off his head. £35 to be told he's fine!

Oh Harry......

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/02/2021 13:34

I don't know why I was surprised. There was £200 at the out of hours vet when he hurt his leg one Christmas Eve and he jumped up onto the vets table when they tried to get him to walk on the floor. There was also the £900 for his heart scans and x rays after we were told he was dying of heart failure but he only had a grade one murmur thankfully.

Thank goodness for insurance!

To right but I don't know what I'm going to do with Snorg when the premium gets doubled next year.

hedgehoghutch · 14/02/2021 14:15

Could it be allergies (not to food but to anything outside pollen, grass etc) my cat does this in the summer a lot and sometimes winter so we give him a antihistamine as suggested by vet and it does seem to help a little. He looks like he has been through the wars when it's bad and all red & scabby Grin

hedgehoghutch · 14/02/2021 14:17

And we have to put pet antiseptic ointment stuff on it which as you can imagine does not go down very well 😂

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/03/2021 12:01

I thought I'd update this - Harry's face is healing nicely but he now has wounds on his front paw and hind leg! I took him to the vet yesterday they are infected so he's had an antibiotic injection and a steroid injection. He's a bit subdued today but I think he's a bit annoyed that our upstairs neighbour is having work done and it's interrupting his sleep!

So I'm £106 poorer and the trip to the vet triggered my hayfever as the surgery is surrounded by trees! I'm sniffing and snuffling and Harry is fed up. I can't think why DH found a reason to go out!
