Cat that hates brushing/stroking and furballs

My rescue cat has a semi-long hair that she spends s lot of time grooming, and of course she is as a result prone to furballs. Usually she brings them up relatively quickly but every now and again they make her feel under the weather for a couple of days.

Is there something I can get to help her? Any remedies I can buy from PAH or anything?

A big part of the problem is that she is not a cuddly cat. She sometimes allows noserubs but her body is completely off limits to me which of course makes brushing her very difficult. I have tried a range of brushes and she hates them all and attacks them. I have also tried dampening my hands and just stroking her but of course that's no better as she doesn't like being touched.

Any advice?

We give our cat anti hair ball treats, they look like dreamies but are apparently different.
I also bought an anti hairball paste he loved it but he didn't poo for 4 days- I don't know if it was related but he stopped having that.

Thanks @Nutrigrainygoodness can you get those anti hairball treatments from PAH? Will go and take a look today.

Yes you can, my colleague swears by the hairball paste. I tried it once, but made the mistake of putting it on their paws, so they would lick it off. They didn't! It got very messy. Confused

@coffeefirstthing yeah you can. I hope it helps, even slightly. I hate cleaning up hairballs 🤮

You can also get anti hairball dry food for cats. I use it occasionally for my indoor cats and they seem to prefer it to their usual dry (from the same manufacturer).

Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully can find something that works for my poor girl.

Can anyone link to these?

Coffeefirstthing · 30/01/2021 13:11

I bought some hairball relief paste but struggling to get her to take any. She's off her food so even masking it with a treat didn't work. I managed to put some on her paw but she's not licked it and has just gone into my bed with it on..

Also got some dry food but think that's more of a preventative rather than cure.

Is she off her food because of another hairball? I tried the paste with an old cat he flicked it off his paw it hit the ceiling the wall the door me everything Hmm

I get the hairball treats from amazon now

Coffeefirstthing · 30/01/2021 13:30

Yeah it's another hairball. Usually she brings them up fairly easily but this is the second time she's been feeling rough a bit longer. When it happened before she eventually expelled it but she was off her food for a couple of days before it happened. She does eat some wet food so will try and mix the paste with that at dinner time.

Have you tried a rubber zoom groom or a glove

Coffeefirstthing · 30/01/2021 13:45

@FloppyFlipper yes have tried them, she hates them all. Have also tried treats and brushing her when she's eating but she just squirms and then starts attacking the brush.

She is such a lovely cat otherwise, always following me around, keeping me company when I do laundry or just sitting there when I watch TV. But she just doesn't like being touched other than her head/face when it suits her.
