Do you brush your cats teeth?

My old girl is 20 now and has great teeth, I took her in for cleaning and one extraction 18 months ago. She almost died following anaesthesia so they don't want to do another one if they don't have to.
The vet said I should brush her teeth - perish the thought.
Last time I tried that she bit me so hard I had to have antibiotics for the resulting infection. She's an old feral.
Is it really necessary? I check her teeth every week and they look fine, she prefers dry food so I really don't feel I need to.

😹 we have attempted it yes. I say we, my dh did and I videoed and laughed the whole way through. She was not impressed. We did not repeat the experience. £8 toothpaste reminder under the kitchen sink.

I’ve always had cats; never brushed their teeth!

I generally feed on dry food, with fresh water always available; pouch type food as an occasional treat.

When out cats were kittens, the vet recommended we get them started young as it's so much easier to get them used to it, so we bought some chicken flavoured cat toothpaste. She said to wait until they were calm and start by rubbing a little into their mouths to get them used to it.

The only problem was that our cats are high maintenance (want constant playtime/attention/entertainment) so they only time we had any hope of trying it was when they were sleepy. Only we were so relieved whenever they went to sleep that we didn't want to wake the needy little fuckers Grin

No way I get enough scratches from flea treating them.

I just laughed when the vet suggested this. At the time we had thread cats and five dogs. I struggled to get my own teeth cleaned.

We have a rubbery thimble type toothbrush and some rank smelling paste. Have brushed our cat’s teeth monthly with it. He’s not overly keen and growls throughout the procedure, but I’ve not lost an eye / finger yet.

@UseHerName £8? Is that al. I think the Ruhr I was given cost about £15!
