Black specks

charliebear78 · 24/01/2021 12:09

I know that black specks usually signal fleas.
I have treated him and checked him over and cannot find any other sign other than this patch of black specks in his fur near his tail..
Despite having used the flea treatment each month this patch remains-I brush it daily and always remove lots.
Any MNs have any ideas?

Which flea treatment are you using? The little blighters can become resistant to some brands, so you might need to switch to another.

Just today used the last one, so will buy a different brand and see if that helps!
It is odd, I never see my cat itching and it is literally just in the one patch on his back.

There is a condition called feline acne, one of my cats gets it but it’s on her neck and under her chin. It can look like flea poo

None of the brand's you can buy in the shops worked on my cats. The fleas in our area are immune
We had to get a stronger version from the vets

We use three brands for cycle between each brand for 3 months then switch. I think it confuses the fleas so they stay away.

It's fleas. And any flea treatments you can buy off the shelf don't work (and some are positively dangerous to cats). The only treatment you can buy without prescription that works is Advantage - which isn't exactly off the shelf in that it can only be sold by a qualified person, but you can buy it online - by completing a form, in big chemists - by the pharmacist, and in Pets at Home (but you have to ask for it - it isn't on the shelves). Don't waste your money on anything else.

Alternatively buy stuff from a vet.

You need a decent brand from your vet.

Supermarket flea treatment doesn't work.
