Cat food advice

Hi all!

We have a six month old kitten and I'm looking at his food and trying to get the best for him. There's just so much choice! Does anyone have any recommendations for wet/dry food that will offer him the best health benefits? He's just a moggy so no need for breed specific.

I was looking at subscription services but don't know if they are worth the cost?

Thanks!

We have settled on Purizon dry food from zoo plus, you can buy small bags to see if cat enjoys it.
Wet food we buy natures menu , but cat currently only eating the country hunter duck one!!!
Also likes Wilko Natures best cat food but only the fish variety - can see real fish chunks in it.
Has two pouches a day and then free dry food.

PS gorgeous cat

Whatever you get it will be the wrong choice. Welcome to being a cat slave!

Haha! Don't I know it! I'm already pandering to his whims! I feel sorry for him today though- it was the chop at the vets yesterday!

He will bounce back from that. Our ginger Tom was chopped at 14 weeks and recovered within a few days Smile

Oh good I'm not used to him looking subdued!

I’ve got a ginger boy here too. Currently feeding him on Royal Canin kitten dry but will move him onto their exigent variety as he seems to like it too when helping himself to the other cats food. I only use wet as a treat as I find it can put them off dry which is so easy to feed. The exigent is for ‘fussy’ cats and my fussy one loves it so far. I order from Zooplus in bulk, really easy. How did his little chop go ? Got my boy booked in for his ginger nuts in a couple of weeks.

@GemmaFoster oh thanks I'll look at that. He is fussy with dry- will only eat it if there is nothing else on offer! The op all went well- the vets said he was getting lots of fusses! He had his chip put in at the same time. He seems back to normal today - was just a bit sleepy for two days.

I hear mixed things about Royal cain food which sounds like the royalty of cat food!
Some of them the first ingredient is maize so be careful.+ and check properly. And I can never find the details of percent of each ingredient they include which I don't like as I like to give a high percent of meat or fish.
When mine was younger I bought smaller bags to try with him. I didn't email various companies for samples but no wanted to send any!
Good luck and hope he is brighter today!

If he is happy eating wet then that is fine, they are far better eating wet food, especially neutered males. I'd look for food with a high meat content that is complete and not complementary, avoid foods wirh a high carb and cereal content.

dementedpixie · 21/01/2021 08:15

Royal canin is not that great for its price tag. Ideally you want high meat and low/no grain as cats are obligate carnivores. Mine have thrive and encore dry and whatever wet food they will deign to eat. They like chopped cooked chicken too

I used to feed my very fussy cat Purizon but they changed the recipe and he went off it, plus it made his coat go really scurfy and dull.

Currently feeding Lily's Kitchen dry. I thought he liked the fish one, so did a bulk buy, and naturally he has now gone right off it.

He also has Hill's (?) Td, which the vet recommended for his teeth, and Sheba Fresh Choice pouches or Felix Soup pouches.
