Looking for new sofas, which material and how to avoid destruction

I bought leather sofas a few years ago, and the cats have shredded them so I am looking for a new set.

I don’t really like leather sofas, but I am keen on them because they are easy to clean. I have 3 cats, and am forever hoovering up cat hair, and this time of year I am constantly wiping up muddy prints. I dread to think how much cleaning a non leather sofa might take so I would like opinions/experience on which types are better and how best to protect them.

I will probably cover the sofas with throws and blankets while I’m out/asleep this time around, but I am wondering how much difference that will make to claws, with leather?

If I go for non leather, I’ve read that cat hairs can end up ingrained so no amount of cleaning will get rid of them. I know you can get fur cleaning gadgets but reviews can be hit and miss, but I’m not sure if it differs between materials.

I am completely stuck on which type to look for. Any recommendations for types and ideas on protecting and keeping materials clean are welcome!

I have thickish fabricy stuff on an IKEA sofa and both cats like that, but tend to stick to one arm only for scratching. Previously have had the thick black nubbly material (apologies for shit descriptions) - hated the sofa, but could not see any scratched bits. A thin cotton covering many years ago got turned into a doily within 2 years.
I have a Snug chair which is velvety and they never scratch that, no idea why, maybe they know it was over my budget and I would kill them, but that is usually the reason they like something...

I used to have an IKEA ektorp. The cats shredded it. But the covers were washable and replaceable. Ive now got leather and they don't scratch it.

Only solution I found is a big and solid scratching post in both of the two offending rooms, plus hissing if they try on the sofa. They learned quite quickly, but don't know whether that will last.

Get something unspeakably tacky. They’ll leave it alone.

The only way to avoid destruction is to have a concrete sofa!!
In previous years I've covered mine in big throws and have a scratching post each end which does deter them.
My current cat is too old to scratch anything and I keep her nails clipped short.
