Ragdoll or moggy

I’m considering getting a cat in the next couple of months. I love the look of ragdolls and their personalities are definitely a match for us and vice versa. We are a family of 3, kids 15 and 8 and live in a flat with a balcony which I think would suit a ragdoll.
But the only thing stopping me is the amount of shedding from a long hair cat and litter box problems with a long hair cat.
I’m wondering if I should get a moggy instead or a bsh.
My main hopes is that we’d get a friendly affectionate cat which I know you can’t predict. Especially with moggies.
I understand there will be hair and accidents ect. I’m fine with that, but possibly not to the extent of a long hair cat...
Also, no rescues. They won’t accept us.
Anyone with experience that can offer advice??

Really? That photo is very deceptive then because the one on the left definitely has a 'don't fuck with me' look ...

They are both adorable of course :) (I should have said) despite the definite hard Paddington stare

Persian!!!!!!!!!! Long hair sheds less and as long as you keep on top of it it's fine.

Or a Persian exotic short hair. Mine is bonkers!

I have two ragdolls one is called Sassy and she is a spoilt rotter. They are lovely cats but not as friendly as my Norwegian forest kitten, but he sheds loads. Picture of him just because he is very spectacular

I do love ragdolls. But have a feeling I’ll end up going with bsh as I’m scared of regretting a long haired breed. I’d love to spend time with one first but that’s not going to happen with covid.

Well I have to agree being the owner of two ragdoll crosses and various other pedigree and non pedigree Ragdolls are very affectionate. My cats were all house cats till I moved and cat proofed my garden. They are happy to have a wee wander but not overly bothered.
OP you are correct Ragdolls are not recommended to go outside. Also some rescue centres do advertise indoor homes only for some cats in their care.
Providing lots of enrichment is beneficial. You will of course get a cat that will be desperate to get out but I know my cats are happy and safe.
Good luck in your search for a new family member x
