I'm so angry.

Our two cats had quite a few accidents on our carpet over the first few months of having it. They would go again and again in the same place. We have had to put down a hard floor since, it was an old carpet but we just never got the smell away and realised when taking it up that the wee had soaked through to underlay.

Anyway they have been fine for the last couple months, use the cat flap etc. They never wee'd on our old sofa etc..

We purchased a new sofa about 6 weeks ago. This is the first new sofa we have ever had. All has been fine and then yesterday I was ironing and had everyone's washing lined up on it. When I just caught my female cat urinating on my washing pile and onto two of the cushions of my corner sofa and through the gaps.. gutted.

Have tried the bi carb and vinegar. Have put the covers in washing machine but it has soaked though to the feather inner layer...

I'm so annoyed.

What can I do to stop them weeing on the same place because no doubt they'll find the spot again.

TIA

You need an enzyme cleaner. Pets at home sell them or might get it on amazon.

Do you think that will do the nob?

Yes they get rid of the smell really well. One of mine used to wee on the sofa. The only thing that stopped it was physically blocking access.

dementedpixie · 06/01/2021 14:19

It breaks down the odour molecules and removes the smell they would be attracted back to. Do you have litter trays? Checked for UTI when they did it before?

CoisFarraige · 06/01/2021 14:20

Second that - the one with enzymes is brilliant for any 'organic' spills including human - urine/vomit/milk.

hettyhooverdoover · 06/01/2021 14:38

Can anyone send me a link to a good one please? And would it stop them going in the same place again?

Think Simple Solution is the brand I bought
If its a behavioural issue then I dont know whether it will stop them doing it again

dementedpixie · 06/01/2021 14:48

Or if you use bio detergent you could try making up a solution with that and see if it helps

Vanish carpet mousse works surprisingly well.

If you don't have a litter tray already then I'd suggest you get one. Prevention is better than cure.

I am not confident that it won't happen again .My cat started weeing in the corner by the front door , about 2 ft away from the litter tray , I've tried everything to stop it but no success . Hard floor so no actual damage done . I invested in puppy training pads , cat happy , I'm happy ( sort of !)

Cat wee is highly alkaline. I have found that white vinegar (in water) gets rid of the smell.

I have tried that today. Its a bit better but the cats are still sniffing about!
