Took in a kitten today that has been hanging around our area for a week - she was hungry and cold. We’ve put messages on nextdoor and facebook earlier today, with no result. Taking her to the vet tomorrow to see if she’s microchipped. She’s not spayed, we think she’s about 3 months old. She’s now very agitated and seems to be searching for something - she’s yowling, but not in pain. We’re wondering if she’s pregnant - she’s thin but got a bit of belly on her. Has anyone any advice please? Very experienced cat owners but only had older rescue cats. We will keep her if her owner can’t be found. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like she could be in heat! Definitely keep her locked in. I wonder if she's escaped from her own home as they can be determined when in heat.

Could she be in heat?
The big belly could be due to worms. The vet will advise.

Thank you for replying so quickly. I didn’t think of her being in heat. She’s been fine all day though - I’m ashamed that neither DH or I know what’s wrong. We’ll definitely keep her in and call our vet first thing tomorrow.

Tbh sounds like heat, if she hasn’t been fed well she could be older than you think.

Keep her in. Give her water, but not food. Cardboard box if you have one to give her a "safe place".

Vet in the morning. After the vets, if there's no microchip, then feed her.

Rub the base of her tail on her tail/back area, if she lowers her back legs and does a paddling motion she is in heat.

Cats make all manner of noises for reasons known only to themselves though so might just like the sound of her own voice.

Hello everyone, thank you again for your replies. I hadn’t mentioned that she was a Burmese kitten so unlikely to have been abandoned. Took her to the vet today and she was chipped, so they are contacting her owners. Apologies for no photo, but she was too energetic to pose. I am a bit heartbroken at giving her up, which is very selfish and unreasonable I know.

Well it’s good she found you and you got her scanned. Someone’s going to be very happy today!.

Sounds like you need a cat though?.

Hi Fluffy
We have a soon to be 20 year old half Bengal. She’s got leukaemia and early kidney disease and our vet advised against invasive treatments. She’s on a programme of sleep, eat, poo, belly rub, and repeat. Our house is big enough to have accommodated them both separately until very gentle introductions had been made, but we wouldn’t have purposefully brought in another cat until Yazzy’s gone. Realistically I don’t think she’ll be with us for very much longer though. We’ve always had cats and we’ll know when it’s time for her to be pts. Couldn’t be without a cat or two or three, the house is so empty without them.

Kitten is now safely back home with her very relieved owners.

That’s good. I’m sorry your Bengal is poorly. I had a Bengal and he was the best.
