The best cat litter...?

Hi all,
We are adopting a little male kitten in a couple of weeks and I am trying to get everything ready.

I wondered if I could ask your expert minds which is the best cat litter to buy? I want something that is good at reducing smells (if that is possible) and ideally something that isn't terrible for the planet. I have seen some are flushable or quickly biodegradable? Any tips would be very much appreciated :)

Thanks!

I'do ask the breeder what they've been using and keep that for a month. Experience tells me... I've spent a lot of money in launderettes in the past few weeks washing a winter tog superking duvet set... three times...
(My other cat was absolutely fine with wooden litter in sieve trays.)

It needs to be something soft like ultra clumping. They raise their expectations once they’ve got their paws under the table.

My two now have 4 trays around the house with different litters in...Hmm. They like the choice. When I've used just one type, they start peeing in my daughter's bed. And I've seen both cats using both litters....so it's not like each one has a preference.
The wood chip stuff (clumping-mine like world's best and cats best. I prefers cats best as less tracking everywhere) you can get away with changing much less often and it definitely doesn't smell as much. The clay stuff like catsan (or supermarket own in our case) needs changing once a week ish (non clumping). I left it 10 days and the smell on emptying it made me heave. You also need to scoop asap. otherwise in our case they start peeing on bed if I've missed a buried poo

They are lovely really Grin. Got them last January and they've kept the girls and I sane through this past year.
