Cat asthma cost of medicines etc.

Hannah has been continuing to cough, so is back at the vets tomorrow morning. I think she might have asthma after doing some research and watching videos of asthmatic cats.

Please could anyone give me an idea of how much the medicines cost each month? She does have insurance, but I don't know if I'll have to pay for them myself.

Also, what is the most dust free litter there is? They don't like wood pellets and will pee on the floor next to the tray if I use these. I clean the trays out completely every day as I have three cats. I can't afford the expensive stuff as I spend a lot on quality food.

I'd use clumping litter and then you only need to scoop pee and poo out daily

We use Cats Best which isn't dusty. I find the clay based litters the worst for dust. Catsan type ones are a bit dusty but less so. Might also be worth checking things have no fragrance added ie. Pine freshener baby powder (just what cats need at?)
No experience with cat asthma but you could get a prescription from your vet and buy online. The vet will have a fee for the prescription. We have used animeddirect.co.uk which our vet recommended and there is another one our vet also recommended petdrugsonline. I did use Viovet for syringes and they also seemed good.

The silicon litters are the least dusty I use Nulladour and by the big four month bag.
Meds are really going to depend on what is prescribed prednisolone tablets would be a couple of pounds a month, ventolin inhaler ( £20 per month) or Fluixitide inhaler (£200 per month). Those are rough gestimstes. It will depend on your vets charges and if you get written prescription what the human pharmacy charges for the fluxitide or ventolin.

My 12 year old is asthmatic- she also has a horrible itchy skin condition so has steroids which help with both - it's usually about £14 per prescription which last about five weeks. But obviously that would depend on what you're prescribed and how often they're needed. Mine used to have a tablet every three days but as she's got older it's every day.

Thanks everyone.

I've ordered some Worlds Best Cat litter. It's so expensive, but you can scoop and spot remove wet bits, so no more full changes every day. The litter I buy atm is just the cheap supermarket 10litre bags and it is very dusty.

She has to go in on Thursday morning for a chest xray and a lung flush thingy to collect some cells. It is looking like asthma.

I'm damp dusting the house and trying to think of ways to improve the environment. I never use air fresheners, sprays or perfumes. I just use bog standard antibacterial spray for the kitchen and loo/bathroom areas. I'll try to minimise use of that. I always air the house out every day.

Is she okay with synthetic cat blankets which I'll wash every week?

The vet says it looks like a mild case, which is good. Inhaler will be around £40 per month.
