Dcat randomly attacks my OH.

My little boy is 4 and an amputee he's neutered generally lovely with me and DD. Before lockdown OH worked away 3-5 days a week.
Now since lockdown he's been back Dcat will pounce on OH and bite into arms and ankles, sometimes quite nastily he doesn't growl or hiss which makes me think it's play aggression.

OH gets very fed up with him and puts him in the utility room I have changed his diet, took him to the vets and used feliway.
It's been nearly 9 months since OH has been home everyday and Dcat still isn't used to it.

His behaviour is a little bit better but he's still pouncing on OH sometimes, he doesn't do it at all to me and DD.
Why does he hate my OH so much?

If there's no growling or hissing, it's very unlikely he hates your OH. More that he sees your OH as a suitable play partner. There should be some posters on soon who will be able to tell you the best techniques for stopping this, but I'm still half asleep!

Also look for Jackson Galaxy on YouTube, he's the ultimate cat whisperer.

It’s play if he’s not growling, he needs distracting with a kicking toy he can pummel.

I think they are genuinely astonished we don’t enjoy it but shutting him away won’t achieve anything.

My Dad's cat does this to him. The cat's his shadow, adores him but will randomly attack (with fangs!) once a day or every few days. Absolutely no warning 😂

I think he's working out his pent up hunting instinct. He's quite lazy and only strolls around outside - no running or chasing the wildlife! He has toys but it's more fun to randomly chomp on an unsuspecting human hand.

Would yours play with something like the Frolicat bolt as a distraction? Or would that only hype him up more?!

The Kong kickeroo gets really good reviews although my adult cat completely ignored it! Try toys with catnip?

He doesn't hate him - he wants to play. Your DH ignoring him and shutting him away won't make the blindest bit of difference either!

Does your DH ever play with the cat or do anything with him like feeding or giving treats or fussing? It kind of sounds like the cat wants his attention/time to me.

My lovely girl would viciously attack my ex husband everyday and draw blood, she just didn't like him. He never retaliated just muttered under his breath.
Now he's gone she's much happier, she is very close to me and always cuddling and I don't think she wanted to share.
But looking at body language he never engaged with her at all, he'd pet her absent mindedly but not pay her attention or play with her and I don't think she liked being ignored.

He doesn't hate him. He wants to play with him. It's cruel to shut him away for that.
He needs interactive toys and you all need to play with him too.

Buy a Kickeroo and then DP can chuck it/protect his ankles.

I'd also recommend a pair of thick gloves - cats love people who can get involved with cat-like play without complaining of minor flesh wounds.
