Comprehensive but economical cat insurance

Walkingtheplank · 04/12/2020 17:20

Our cat's insurance has tripled in 6 years - it's now more than our car insurance and our home insurance.

Can anyone recommend a policy that is reasonably priced and has good coverage - no point having it if we can't claim or have to pay a large amount of the cost.

Many thanks,

Have you tried a price comparison website? It will show level of cover alongside the price

Walkingtheplank · 04/12/2020 17:36

I didn't think to do that Blush

Bare in mind anything the data been treated for previously will be excluded.

It's also worth keeping in mind many of the cheaper options will have time limits and only cover the first year of a condition - which is no good if your cat develops a chronic condition such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism or skin allergies.

I've always had Petplan for mine. They are more expensive but pay out quickly.

I'm tied to Tesco but they are still the cheapest for me. I've had my monies worth out of them. The premium is astronomical though!

Bought By Many is good. Has lifetime policies too

Toddlerteaplease · 04/12/2020 22:12

My cats cardiologist recommended I try Bought by Many, even with her existing condition.

Be very wary of cheaper policies. Read the fine print carefully before signing up.
PetPlan is what I use.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2020 22:41

Bought by Many paid out with no issues when I claimed. Petplan was out of my price range for 2 cats

Lonecatwithkitten · 04/12/2020 23:09

They are more expensive than household and car insurance as you are far more likely to claim in any individual year.

Petplan- claimed for an unliscenced drug for our kitten and they still paid out without question

Thanks everyone. I found a good policy with 'Waggle' but thought I'd take a look at PetPlan. The policies and pricing are similar.
As PetPlan seems to have got the top votes here I think we'll go that.

Either policy would be around half(!) what our current insurer is charging.

Thanks again.
