Bloody cat (well actually bloody arm)

I have a lovely cat. She's a fair size - about 6kg - but we don't know if she's part Maine Coon. I will attach pics of course. She's had a troubled past including a period of homelessness and she can get grumpy. But nothing like today. She's mainly chilled (as evidenced by the picture where she's waring pipe cleaners. Don't worry we turn all the sharp ends over with pliers)

She came to sit next to me, rubbing her face affectionately on my hand, purring and dribbling. Then she bit me not overly hard, but the next one was harder and I had to pull her off my arm. Usually that's the end but this time she launched herself at my arm and I had to push her off the arm of the sofa (firmly but not aggressively).

I had 2 decent puncture wounds. Made them bleed, scrubbed my arm with soap and then TCP. Covered the wounds. 4 hours later I was at the GP getting a tetanus booster and 8 days of very strong antibiotics. Under one bite is swollen and hot, with a nice pink halo around it. I already feel nauseated by the antibiotics.

I think we'll go back to the vet tomorrow (last went a month ago. She was walking stiffly. Nothing found so given painkillers which perked her up, then 2 days later an abscess burst) as I'm sure she has to be in pain to have been that psycho.

I just want to whinge to people who will understand. Both arms hurt (injection site and bites) and these antibiotics are going to mess up my stomach badly (they're the same ones I had 10 years ago for a uterine infection following DD2's birth). But I'm actually more worried about the cat, as at last I can tell people what's wrong

Probably revenge for the pipe cleaners!

Pipe cleaners are her favourite thing! And she should attack DD1 out of revenge for that day - she's the one tucked behind the cat. This was 18 months ago so DCat is holding quite a grudge against me.

There's dozens of pictures and in all of them the cat is fairly chilled.

Dcat seems okay today; just came to have a drool-dripping cuddle with me, and I carefully very carefully patted her down to check for abscesses or anything I might have hurt yesterday. Nothing!

Time for another antibiotic Grin

Has she had her teeth checked recently?.

@Fluffycloudland77

Has she had her teeth checked recently?.
I second this. The drooling would worry me.
elfycat · 02/12/2020 16:47

Well her teeth definitely work!

Yes, about a month ago she had a thorough check up as she seemed to be walking stiffly and just seeming to be uncomfortable when sitting down. She might be about 14 so it could be just getting older and a bit creaky. She was okay today but I feel another check up is coming.

At 14 or so you’d be surprised if her teeth were in good condition, has she ever had a dental?.

Zelda93 · 02/12/2020 19:22

Omg she so looks like my old cat .. she was called Zelda and would actually be about 14?? My neighbour took her in when I wasn't able to look after her and I was moving house but I heard she'd run away some time later after they moved house. Honestly she's the spitting image!! Sorry just had to comment.. hope your arm gets better soonSmile

vanillandhoney · 02/12/2020 19:28

The fact that she was rubbing her face and drooling before she bit you would also signal dental issues to me.

RandomMess · 02/12/2020 19:35

Sounds more like a "love" or "dominance" attack!!

Poor you, hope it heals ASAP Thanks

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/12/2020 19:39

If she’s feeling the cold, you could get her a heated cat bed. My DB has an elderly cat and she loves hers. It has really helped the stiffness in her joints.

Our arthritic cat has really benefited from Yumove capsules, the vet was able to give us a 6 week free trial as the manufacturer believes in them working!!!

We do have to give her a bit of sardines in tomato to mix in the granules as she wouldn't eat them mixed into anything else 🙄

It's stopped her over grooming due to the pain.
