Cat with broken leg, any advice?

Hi everyone,

So my cat has managed to break all four of the toes in her back leg.

She's had an operation to pin them back together two days ago and is back with us being crate rested.
She's eating (quite a lot actually), drinking, pooping and peeing so I'm thrilled about that, but she is still holding her leg at a funny angle and not putting it down at all.
I know that it's early days but the vet kept saying 'she's not weight bearing yet' so I was wondering at what point she's supposed to be starting to use the leg as I had assumed it wouldn't be straight away but I don't want to miss any signs of it not setting properly.
Also she's fine most of the time in her crate but she has these 5 minute bursts where she panics and desperately tries to get out, wailing and throwing herself at the side. Is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable?
She has a soft bed, food, water and a litter tray in there.

Also can I please have stories about cats who've broken their legs and are now fine as I feel terrible.

Thanks!

Has she got a cast on. My friends cat did similar, and had pins. She's fine now! But she found walking with the cast very difficult as it made her leg much longer than the others as it was straight.

Cats bounce back really quickly & it’s only her first night in a cage so it’s a big change for her.

No cast on and I think that's what's making my balk as I can see all the pins and the wound looks brutal.

She's very unhappy with her cone of shame on too but I'm just hoping she'll adapt quickly.

Ive got her all cosy and set up in my bedroom and I've even been playing soft 'relaxing music for cats' Blush

I'm usually quite put together but I just crumble when my cat babies are poorly.

Could you try an inflatable buster collar. You can buy them from pet shops. She might be happier in that as she can eat more easily.

My vet said not to use these as it's her back paw and apparently cats are flexible enough to get their paw around it.
I have to say I was surprised at how strict the vet was about it, she said I shouldn't even take it off for feeding and she just needs to learn to live with the collar.
But she's learning to walk with her broken leg too so her movement is very restricted anyway so I feel very sorry for her.
She can't reach her food with the collar on as it's so long so she can't get her foot, so I've been hand feeding her which she doesn't seem to mind but I'd much rather she was independent.
