If so could you please tell me a bit about them. A friend thinks they're hypoallergenic but I'm not sure... Thank you

Just imagine what would happen if someone slid up that panel...

Do you let your cats roam? I have a Maine Coon and haven't let him out yet. Will be 2 in February. All my previous cats went out.

floofycroissant · 26/11/2020 20:53

Yes, but ours is a rescue and was abandoned in the streets for around 18m, so he's pretty street smart. I think he'd be miserable confined. I still worry though, he's so bloody bolshy friendly that he'll match right into any house, he's squared up to a few of the neighbours dogs too Blush

NorskSkogkatt · 27/11/2020 08:11

My cat goes out, she does stay within the boundaries of the garden and she only goes outside when I'm at home - this is because she is scared of a ginger cat half her size and a black cat and cries for me if she sees them Hmm (I can't believe I'm typing this) I always keep the windows open so I can hear her if she needs me.

Let me also just say, I certainly didn't act like this with my human children and still fondly remeber AIBU threads (when my DC were much littler) where I was judged an irresponsible cavalier parent Grin

And yes @SeasonallySnowyPeasant we changed the panel for a new one a couple of years ago. I think DCat is still trying to work that one out in her mind Smile I wouldn't mind if she sat and stared at something interesting, perhaps the hedge opposite with little rustling things in. But no. A fucking fence panel.

NorskSkogkatt your NFC is too gorgeous for words! Helpful to hear about the high maintenance aspect...

This our Siberian. She's almost 6 months old and we got her after having an allergy sitting with the breeder, as DH is allergic. He's had to take a couple of antihistamines since we've had her but his reaction hasn't been very strong. Hoping he'll grow out of it completely. We're all madly in love with the cat so he'll just have to..!

Have the children noticed this? 😃

My FauxSiberian (AKA long haired moggie) does seem to be hypoallergenic in that a very cat allergic friend has no reaction. Previous long haired moggie reduced him to a wheezing, red eyed wreck in seconds, so I think you would need to try before you buy, although a real Siberian might be a more guaranteed bet.

Mine are maine coon kittens and equally as adorable and very similar in their traits...not sure about the hypoallergenic though!!! But for the photo lovers out there...

Tsk. Silly human. She smells the pine slats, she knows if she manages to zone out just right Magic Eye-style a portal will open into a real Norwegian pine forest and she can step through for fun times.
NorskSkoggkatt · 01/12/2020 06:52

Love the photos on this thread. Maine coon kittens

I realised I didn't answer the hypoallergenic question in my rush to show off my cat my cat sheds a lot of fur/hair and has actually broken a fucking Henry hoover. A Henry! (I read about rubber brooms on another thread and may try this). So if there was an irritant in the fur I could see this being a problem.

(The pine forest thought would be good in theory but she is scared of this years Christmas tree HmmGrinit's white (and small as we changed the furniture this year) so I thought it would be like a snowy fir tree and remind her of her distant Norwegian heritage. Nope. I had to carry her past it twice yesterday Hmm)

On that note, the cat hair will cover every piece of clothing you own. You need wide parcel tape as it's better than a lint roller for picking it up, IMO.

NorskSkoggkatt · 01/12/2020 06:54

And let's not even talk about the neighbours frankly excessive flashing outdoor lights. I'm seriously tempted to ask them to take them down as I'm epileptic (not actually photo sensitive but it sounds better than "my cat is scared of them and now won't go past our doorstep when they're on") Grin

Roselilly36 · 01/12/2020 07:02

All of your cats are gorgeous. Serious cat envy this morning! I would absolutely love another cat, any cat. We lost our last boy 3 years ago. Perhaps when we move, we will. Enjoy your lovely cats.

MrsLebowski · 01/12/2020 07:12

My mum has a beautiful NFC he says "hello" (or ar-wow) when he comes in and would follow along for a walk with her and the dog when she lived in a quiet area with not much traffic.

userxx · 01/12/2020 07:22

she can still stare at that fence for hours)

🤣🤣 bless her.

Yes ours follows us too, we have to outfox him when leaving the house so he doesn't end up walking into town with us. We used to live a few doors up from a small pub and once when my DH popped in we found out that our cat was a regular at the bar - even got his own saucer of cream from the landlady Grin

@NorskSkogkatt, I need to know if your children have noticed your helicopter cat owning style.

When I was little there was never any leeway at dinner time. Take it or leave it. When the cats arrived they got a choice and woe betide me if I didn’t check which flavour to offer them “no not chicken flavour, they had chicken flavour for breakfast 2 days ago”. Took me till I was 35 to realise the cats had freedom of choice not offered to her own child.
