Christmas tree

We have 2 kittens that are both around 6 months. My kids are desperate for the Christmas tree to go up and my husband said the cats will destroy it and I'd be insane to put a sparkly tree up with baubles.
Surely I can have cats and a Christmas tree can't I?
Any tips and advice welcomed.

@SoupDragon Grin

OP as well as your head in the cloud so should your baubles be. Atleast the bottom 60 cm should be cat friendly. And secure it otherwise it might tip over.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2020 14:16

Well I wouldn’t use glass decorations or tinsel because they love eating tinsel.

headinthecloud · 22/11/2020 16:35

Thanks for the advice
I clearly have my head in the clouds

This was my 8 month old kitten in the tree his first Xmas. This year we'll have a 4
Month old kitten who has loved batting round baubles I've had around for crafting so I'm sure we're in for a fun month!

We had 6 months old kittens last year and decided against a tree in the hope of one this year. But have again decided against one as our girl is a climber. Theres been too many times I've been on work calls abd having to avoid the clothes horse landing on me. Not keen on having to deal with falling christmas trees!

Pipandmum · 22/11/2020 16:56

We always have a big 8 or 9ft tree. I've always had cats. Only once has a cat climbed up and it fell over, breaking some precious ornaments.
Maybe just have a tabletop tree this year.

dementedpixie · 22/11/2020 16:58

My 2 have never been bothered about the tree. They lie under it but don't go in it

giantangryrooster · 22/11/2020 18:36

I've told this here before, but we have a hook in the ceiling. We tie the top of the tree to it Blush (our tree is tall).

Last year our then kitten climbed the tree once when we put it up and then ignored it for the rest of the time. All my other cats ignore the tree completely. I put cardboard boxes wrapped in Christmas paper underneath and they love curling up in the them. As the tree branches are lowto.tge ground it makes for a great cat den.

Mines been up a week and requires daily 'fluffing' and redecorating with a 3 month old kitten 🤣

LemonBreeland · 23/11/2020 14:02

We have a 6 month old kitten too, so I'm very wary of putting up out tree.
@Fluffycloudland77 thanks for the tip on tinsel. We love tinsel but our kitty eats everything, so we will leave it this year.

Oldraver · 01/12/2020 15:15

We have a tether in the wall

OH put an eye screw in the Eleanor and I used a strap from a bag to tether over the tree centre

BusyEvenForBee · 01/12/2020 15:23

I asked the same question before as I have two beautiful 7 months old ragdolls and was worried about Christmas tree. I got 3 boxes of plastic decorations in different colours from B&Q this year to see if the tree will survive.

They showed a bit of interest when I was putting the tree up but no much interest since. One likes to sleep underneath on top of the tree skirt.

So I will safely put my usual decorations up next year.

BusyEvenForBee · 01/12/2020 15:31

This is what I have this year

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2020 15:37

Surely part of the fun with kittens is their first Xmas tree.

Lozz22 · 01/12/2020 15:47

They don't grow out of it either. 13 years later and mine still likes to chomp on every branch round the bottom of the tree and whack the baubles off. My xmas tree a few years ago had about 4 foot worth of cardboard boxes surrounding it plus ones to block one side of the settee off. It also had chilli powder and curry powder sprinkled around the bottom of it but he liked it and just licked it off. This year I'm just leaving him to it. The tinsel I have on it is out of reach. Thankfully the urge to climb it has never taken his fancy

My princess sleeps in our tree, sorry her tree
