I’ve acquired an ill cat

I found a cat this morning in my kitchen. I assumed he’d be gone when I got back from the school run but he was still there and won’t move.

He’s being scanned for a chip later but the vets can’t do a health check on him until tomorrow. He won’t eat or drink anything, won’t move unless I put him on the floor (he just jumps right back to where he was) and keeps shivering.

I’ve given him a hot water bottle but I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Could you ask the vet?

countdowner · 18/11/2020 09:57

He needs an emergency vet apppointment!

The nearest place that can do an emergency appointment is a 35 minute drive away. That would normally be fine but my car is at the garage so I can’t get there. My local vets can see him tomorrow. They’re scanning him for a chip in a bit so hoping they can at least advise me what to do until then.

Do you have a local cat rescue who can help

ContraIndicated · 18/11/2020 12:44

Aww, poor thing. Do you have any cat treats you could try tempting him with? Or a little syringe to get some liquid into him?

PoltergeistPirates · 18/11/2020 12:56

Aw, poor little sausage. What you can do is provide us with a picture!

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 18/11/2020 13:13

I’ve taken him to the vet to be checked for a chip. He’s unchipped, unneutered, less than a year old and probably a stray. She gave him a flea treatment and wormer and gave him a quick check over. She thinks he’s absolutely fine, probably just got himself very cold and wet which is why he was shivering.

I’ve put him in the conservatory for now. I’ve put food, water and a cat tree in there, plus a couple of hot water bottles and a heater. The local cat rescue is only accepting cats if they absolutely don’t have anywhere else to go at the moment as they’re overrun. I’ll look after him for now and keep putting posters up just in case someone is missing him.

Have you remembered to put a litter tray in there too?

Looks like you may have just acquired a new family member! Grin

Wrapped up in a towel to try and warm him up.

He’s got a litter tray in there but not sure if he’ll actually use it or not. He’s making such a bloody racket - charging around and meowing so loudly!

Have you put him on Facebook? We found a cat last year and I put a notice on our village page. The people who had lost it put a 'lost' notice on Facebook and a week later someone in between spotted both! The cat was 20 miles from home, the owner thought it might have got into a delivery van.

ContraIndicated · 18/11/2020 14:31

I’m so glad the vet thinks he’s ok! How have your other cats reacted?

middleager · 18/11/2020 14:55

Ah bless him! Hopefully food and warmth (and an outside view) will keep him happy, although if he's a wanderer he may want to venture out again.

PoltergeistPirates · 18/11/2020 14:58

What a darling!

Greenbks · 19/11/2020 13:47

How is he doing op? Will you keep him if no one steps forward?

Well that's a good sign. A properly ill cat wouldn't have the energy for that.
