Coughing cat

I have a young cat who was coughing a few months ago. The vets couldn't find anything, but prescribed a course of antibiotics and the cough did go away.

She has been coughing a tiny bit over the last few days. She's up to date with vaccinations, flea and internal parasite control. She's in good health generally and eating okay. She doesn't bring anything up when she coughs and she's breathing fine. No vomiting etc.

Can cats suffer from recurrent chest infections? If it was asthma she'd have been coughing all this time, but she hasn't been.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Playing with any feathers? Or fluffy toys?

No feathers or fluffies. I think she might eat insects and possibly earthworms.

Have you got your central heating on? Is the air to dry? One of mine used to cough everyday. I thought she had asthma, but the vet said it wasn't. It has completely stopped now. But her breathing is worse when the heating goes on.

My cat is very elderly so this is slightly different but... about 5 years ago she developed a cough, was never sick just would have an almost asthma like caughing fit. Took her to the vets and they couldn't find anything. Then Jan this year she had a water infecyion and was given antibiotics and the cough went away complelty. About 2 weeks later caugh came back same as before. The vets believed it was a coincidence but in August she needed antibiotics again and the cough again went away.

I've been going round in circles with the vets as they don't belive it could be an infection due to the length of time she's had it however it totally dissappears when she's had the two courses of antibiotics.

Due to her age and that the cough doesn't seem to bother her im not going to have the poke and prob her. Hope you get to the bottom of it with yours 😊

Does she go outside ? Eat grass? Sometimes a blade of grass can get stuck behind their soft palate and make them cough.

No central heating, just a smokeless fuel stove. She might be eating grass outside, but I've never seen her eating any. Her previous cough came on gradually and the episodes became more frequent.
